Returning to Norfolk Island
Before you leave hospital, your treating team will work with you to identify services that may assist in your recovery. Your discharge plan may include a referral to another facility (e.g. a rehabilitation ward), additional support services at home (short or long term); short term services delivered to you at a temporary address in Metro North Health catchment (e.g. if you need assistance whilst having ongoing outpatient treatment), and/or follow up appointments.
If you’re planning to return to Norfolk Island, please speak with your doctor or healthcare team. In some cases, you might need a medical clearance saying you are well enough to fly (this is a document your doctor completes and emails to QANTAS for approval). It is important to check if this is required, especially if it’s soon after treatment.
If you’re eligible for Norfolk Island Patients’ Travel Accommodation and Assistance Service (NIPTAAS – more info in section below) through NIHRACS, you will have some paperwork to be completed by your treating team. Please make sure to tell them during your discharge planning. Please ensure you take the signed documents home with you.
For more information about travel and health requirements, you can read the Quantas Group Medical Travel Clearance Guidelines here: Qantas Group Medical Travel Clearance Guidelines
