Newborn Bloodspot Screening Program (NBS)

The Newborn Bloodspot Screening team is responsible for the evaluation, enhancement and maintenance of the Newborn Screening program within the Metro North Hospital and Health Services area.

The team consists of a Public Health Physician, a Public Health Registrar and the Clinical Midwifery Consultant. They work closely with the Metro North facilities and external stakeholders on all matters pertaining to Newborn Screening.

Services

  • Provide an evidence-based, quality improvement approach to the evaluation, enhancement, and maintenance of the Newborn Bloodspot Screening Program.
  • Undertake data analysis and reporting to assess key performance indicators and identify gaps/inconsistencies within Newborn Screening to inform quality improvement efforts.
  • Develop responses to address emerging service needs in relation to Newborn Screening and work collaboratively with Metro North sites and stakeholders to implement changes.
  • Provide education, training and clinical support in relation to the Newborn Bloodspot Screening Program.
  • Liaise with key stakeholders in the provision of policy advice on issues relating to professional and clinical practice, education and research relating to Newborn Screening.
  • Maintain policy and education resources for the Newborn Bloodspot Program within Metro North HHS.
