Food Safety and Standards

Food safety standards ensure Australian food businesses produce food that is safe and suitable for humans to eat. Our Environmental Health Officers work collaboratively with other Health Departments, Local Government and Safe Food Production Queensland to ensure food businesses meet the minimum requirements to comply with the Food Act 2006.

Services we provide

  • Monitoring and compliance with the Food Act 2006 and the Australia and New Zealand Food Standards Code (FSC) to ensure food for sale is safe and suitable for human consumption, to prevent misleading conduct in relation to the sale of food, and to ensure that the labelling and composition of food is in accordance with the FSC
  • Provide information and advice to both food businesses and members of the public on food legislation
  • Investigate concerns from members of the public regarding suspected food-borne illness, foreign matter in food, deteriorated food, labelling concerns, and allergen complaints
