Public Health Unit

The Metro North Public Health Unit is located in Windsor, Brisbane from which we provide a public health service across the geographic area of Metro North

What do we do

The role of our Public Health unit is to enhance the health of our population. Our Communicable Disease, Environmental Health and Health Surveillance teams work together to prevent, manage, and control communicable disease and environmental health risks in our community.

Our team

Our team is made up of Public Health Physicians, Nurses, Environmental Health Officers, Epidemiologists, Data Officers, a Medical Entomologist and Business Service Officers.

Who we work with

We work with Brisbane North PHNBrisbane City CouncilMoreton Bay Regional CouncilRADAR, as well as child care centres, residential aged care facilities, schools and laboratories.

Australian Bat Lyssavirus

Australian Bat Lyssavirus (ABLV) is a disease similar to rabies which causes a fatal neurological disease in humans.

The Metro North Public Health Unit has a key role in linking the many community-based organisations, care providers and education providers involved in sexual health.

Our Environmental Health Officers (EHOs) play an important role in minimising the exposure to tobacco and other smoking products in areas where we live and work in order to improve health outcomes.
