Syrian born Dr Ammar is one step closer to his dream of being a surgeon with the Metro North Workplace Based Assessment Program. 🩺

In January 2019, Dr Ammar arrived in Australia after fleeing Syria, where he trained in anatomical pathology amid conflict. Determined to rebuild his career, he passed the Australian Medical Council Part 1 and English exams and began volunteering at Redcliffe Hospital’s information desk to improve his language skills.

He landed his first job as a junior doctor in May 2022 where his determination and dedication allowed him to excel in the role. 🙌

In June 2024, Dr Ammar commenced the Workplace Based Assessment (WBA) Program through Metro North at Caboolture Hospital. WBA gives International Medical Graduates like Dr Ammar a real pathway to General Registration - and a future in specialties like General Surgery, his dream.

Balancing work, the pressure of home, and life as a new dad to a five-month-old baby, Dr Ammar is now on the cusp of General Registration.

“The thought of not getting a job was stressful. Now, with the WBA, I feel relieved and like doors are about to finally open.”

📢 Want to learn more? Join the WBA Program Info Webinar on 20 May at 6pm (via TEAMS).

Caboolture Hospital registered midwife Hayley has given a whole new meaning to bringing your personal life to work, after the recent birth of her baby boy Kit 👶🤱

Hayley has been part of the tight-knit Caboolture Hospital team since 2022, and when she found out she was pregnant she immediately knew she wanted to give birth at the hospital.

“I wouldn’t want to have my baby anywhere else. It’s a special place to work and everyone looks out for each other," Hayley said.

“People often ask me if it was strange having my colleagues see me give birth, but I felt so safe and comfortable it was almost like having a home birth."

“Being a patient and seeing things from the other side was a unique experience. It really helped me understand the impact we as midwives can have on patients and their families."

Happy first Mother's Day Hayley, and happy Mother's Day to all mums in the Metro North community 💕

Caboolture Hospital experienced a major milestone this week as they went live with the Integrated Electronic Medical Record (ieMR).

Registered Nurses Rachel and Jen from the Specialist Outpatient Department were among the first to experience the transformation which moves from paper-based systems to a streamlined, centralised digital platform - improving how they care for their patients.

“It’s exciting how much it improves clinical communication," Rachel said.

"It makes it much easier to communicate between facilities, doctors and to track patient interactions."

“Ultimately, it's all about creating a better experience for patients, which in turn is a bonus for how we work."

👏 A big shout-out to Rachel, Jen and the whole team involved in this digital transformation.

Well done Caboolture. Once you have learnt iemr you will never go back. It’s a great system. 👍👏👌

Does this mean all metro North hospitals can now see the patient’s same file? I have specialist’s at 4 metro North hospitals and this would be really helpful for them to all see the same file on me.

Great to see you Jen! xx

PLEASE PLEASE make TPCH digital about 5 years ago 😭🥲⌛️
