Community voices helping delivery of new medical imaging service

Community voices are helping deliver a new, purpose‑built Metro North medical imaging service at Brighton.
The new facility is part of a statewide MRI and CT expansion program. It will offer CT, MRI, Ultrasound and X‑ray imaging for Brighton Health Campus patients and eligible outpatients from across the Metro North catchment.
More than 80 patients, family members, carers and support workers recently responded to a survey to ensure the new facility reflected the needs and expectations of the Brighton and north Brisbane communities.
Key themes to come from the survey included access, plenty of parking, wayfinding and an inclusive design that supported people with diverse physical, sensory and cultural needs.
Participants also shared valuable ideas about outdoor spaces, amenities, environmental design and the role of art, highlighting how well-designed healthcare environments could reduce stress, improve comfort and support better health outcomes.
Brighton Medical Imaging Department Principal Project Officer Nikki Gorham said a strong collaboration with community partners was central to delivering high-quality healthcare.
“Community voices help shape how we design and deliver healthcare,” Nikki said.
“By partnering with consumers, we can ensure the new medical imaging department reflects what matters most to the people who will use it, creating a space that is welcoming, culturally safe, accessible and supportive of better health outcomes.”
Metro North Health consumer Angela de Weger also highlighted the value of community involvement.
“When consumers are invited to share their experiences and ideas, it leads to services that feel safer, more comfortable and more connected to the community,” Angela said.
“It’s great to see these voices shaping the future of medical imaging at Brighton.”
The new facility will be run by Redcliffe Hospital. Insights gathered through this survey will directly inform ongoing planning and design.
