RBWH receives international recognition for COVID-19 response

Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital (RBWH) has been named as one of five Australian health services to be recognised in the International Hospital Federation’s (IHF) Beyond the Call of Duty for COVID-19 recognition program.

Beyond the Call of Duty for COVID-19 acknowledges hospitals and health services around the world that proactively implemented outstanding and innovative actions in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

RBWH was recognised not only for their effective response to the COVID-19 pandemic and the challenges that came with it, but for their efforts in recognising and thanking the wider community who helped keep COVID-19 numbers in Queensland at bay.

The hospital was recognised alongside other Australian health services including Dental Health Services Victoria (DHSV), Heathcote Health & Energesse, Pathology Queensland and SA Pathology. Internationally, 100 health services across 27 countries received accolades for their response to the pandemic.

RBWH Executive Director David Rosengren said he was honoured for the hospital to be recognised in the program.

“Like the rest of the world, our dedicated team worked tirelessly to prepare for and respond to the impact of the pandemic,” he said

“However, it is thanks to the efforts of the wider community to stay home, social distance and practice good hand hygiene that COVID-19 numbers in Queensland have remained low.

“I’m incredibly proud of our team, and eternally grateful to our community for the sacrifices they’ve made throughout 2020 to help keep everyone safe.”
