mDRIFT streamlines orthopaedic care

Australia’s first orthopaedic infection specialist centre is making a huge difference to our patients, since its launch at RBWH in 2020.

Doctor and patientmDRIFT (multidisciplinary Device-Related Infection Team) takes a patient-centred approach, combining both an inpatient ward and outpatient centre to streamline treatment for orthopaedic-acquired infections.

Metro North Health sees up to 300 patients each year experiencing device-related infections, who previously, have had to juggle multiple appointments with various specialists across orthopaedics, plastics, and infectious diseases – which can be particularly burdensome for those living outside metropolitan Brisbane.

MDRIFT’s commitment to tailored, multidisciplinary care with co-location of appointments and treatments means Metro North Health patients have been given back an ample amount of time, with travel costs also reduced, so they can focus more on their recovery.
