Redcliffe Hospital Emergency Department has over 75,000 patients arrive through their doors each year. 🚑

Associate Nurse Unit Manager Meg, a proud Wakka Wakka woman, is committed to improving culturally safe care for everyone that enters the department.

“Coming to the emergency department can be quite confronting for my community, so I like that in my role I can help Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander patients feel comforted and supported,” she said.

“The team in the ED are great, it's a diverse team made up of specialist emergency physicians, nurses and allied health practitioners, working together to achieve positive outcomes for patients."

"I have a pulse, I can stand and I am alive."

These words of wisdom come from Richard who is non-verbal after having a stroke six weeks ago. Though he hasn't let this bring his spirit down. He communicates by speaking some words like yes and no and by writing. His goal is to get talking again and is working twice daily with speech therapists to regain his speech.

Keep going Richard I know it's scary times ahead your in great hands take one day at a time. 9 years ago I had two cardiac arrests two strokes and a AAA aortic dissection so I do know stroke can be hard to navigate try not to be to hard on yourself I think your doing great 👍👍 it's about trying to find your new normal

You do great Richard I needed much rest early on after stroke. Keep going with Speech goals !
