Redcliffe Hospital’s leading role in post-ICU recovery
Redcliffe Hospital is taking a leading role in Post-ICU care in Australia with a dedicated clinic to reduce symptoms of Post Intensive Care Syndrome (PICS). The clinic helps patients readjust to their lives after an ICU stay, which can cause long term physical, emotional and cognitive symptoms impacting their daily life.
Supporting and empowering patients living with a disability
Around one in five people in Moreton Bay community are living with a disability – which is why Redcliffe Hospital’s Disability Specialist is so important.

A new FibroScan tool for patients at Redcliffe Hospital is making it easier to assess liver health, with CNC Phoebe playing a key role in securing the technology. 🫶
"The FibroScan machine provides immediate information about both liver stiffness and fat content to the specialists and patients on the day of their appointment," Phoebe shared.
"It tells us what the liver ‘feels’ like, whereas radiology imaging only shows what the liver ‘looks’ like. This helps us to treat patients by indicating any scarring or advanced fibrosis, among other conditions."
Phoebe is part of the team at Redcliffe Hospital, focusing primarily on early diagnosis of liver disease. She continues on her quest to be a part of the global goal to eliminate hepatitis C as a threat by 2030. 💖

Fiona is an orthopaedic Clinical Nurse Consultant (CNC) who uses her advanced skills to review patients at the Specialist Outpatient Department (SOPD).
In her 23 years of nursing, Fiona has worked with many remarkable colleagues whom she's learnt from. Today, she encourages young nurses to find strong mentors to help them develop their skills.
Fiona epitomises what a team player should be, and during her career was integral in establishing the nurse-led clinic model at Redcliffe Hospital in 2017, and she went on to complete a Post Graduate Diploma in 2021. 🧑⚕️
Reflecting on her recent award, Fiona is grateful for the experiences she's had and the teams she's worked with.
"Thank you to all my colleagues who continue to dig deep and work hard alongside me every day," Fiona says.
"You make the days easier, and the patients' experience better, and you all deserve awards too!"

Donation Specialist Nurse, Barb knows that conversations about death can be difficult, but has seen firsthand how they sometimes lead to the ultimate gift of kindness for others. ❤️🩹
Barb is a nurse of 36 years, starting her journey as a student. Over the years, she has built many relationships with patients and their loved ones at Redcliffe and Caboolture hospitals. 🥰
"My main role is supporting families and staff within the ICU when we can offer organ donation," she shares.
"I have talked with many families and heard stories of their loved ones' wish to donate."
"It warms my heart when I can help a family as they move through their own grief to give consent for organ and tissue donation."
💞 Steve made the decision to donate his wife's organs after they had conversations before her untimely passing in 2022, and he continues to advocate for this important cause.
"Around eight in ten families say yes to donation when they know their family member is on the donor register, but this drops to four in ten when they don't know if their family member wanted to donate," Steve says.
"It's so important to have the conversation with your family, as well as registering, because while four in five people support organ donation, only one in three are registered."
"I've been humbled by the support our family have received from the Donate Life team and encourage everyone to have the conversation today."

On International Security Officers Day, we acknowledge those that de-escalate sticky situations to keep the staff and hospital community safe. 🤩
Peninsula born and bred local Lachlan has been a Security Officer at Redcliffe Hospital for six years, and his quick thinking and expert skills keep staff and patients out of harm's way while they are in our care.
“People are in hospital for many different reasons,” Lachlan said.
“We often deal with people who are highly stressed or agitated, it’s very rewarding when you manage to engage with these people to de-escalate a situation and help them understand that hospital staff are there to help them.”
“It’s fair to say that no two days are the same and I really enjoy the variety the job brings.”

Fiona epitomises what a team player should be, and during her career was integral in establishing the nurse-led clinic model at Redcliffe Hospital in 2017, and she went on to complete a Post Graduate Diploma in 2021. 🧑⚕️
Reflecting on her recent award, Fiona is grateful for the experiences she's had and the teams she's worked with.

Donation Specialist Nurse, Barb knows that conversations about death can be difficult, but has seen firsthand how they sometimes lead to the ultimate gift of kindness for others. ❤️🩹
Barb is a nurse of 36 years, starting her journey as a student. Over the years, she has built many relationships with patients and their loved ones at Redcliffe and Caboolture hospitals. 🥰
"My main role is supporting families and staff within the ICU when we can offer organ donation," she shares.
"I have talked with many families and heard stories of their loved ones' wish to donate."
"It warms my heart when I can help a family as they move through their own grief to give consent for organ and tissue donation."
💞 Steve made the decision to donate his wife's organs after they had conversations before her untimely passing in 2022, and he continues to advocate for this important cause.
"Around eight in ten families say yes to donation when they know their family member is on the donor register, but this drops to four in ten when they don't know if their family member wanted to donate," Steve says.
"It's so important to have the conversation with your family, as well as registering, because while four in five people support organ donation, only one in three are registered."
"I've been humbled by the support our family have received from the Donate Life team and encourage everyone to have the conversation today."

This is a conversation everyone should have with loved ones. I wish Australia would adopt an Opt Out policy so that donation was a given, respecting the rights of people to opt out if they so desired. Think of how many more lives could be saved by this simple act.

On International Security Officers Day, we acknowledge those that de-escalate sticky situations to keep the staff and hospital community safe. 🤩
Peninsula born and bred local Lachlan has been a Security Officer at Redcliffe Hospital for six years, and his quick thinking and expert skills keep staff and patients out of harm's way while they are in our care.
“People are in hospital for many different reasons,” Lachlan said.
“We often deal with people who are highly stressed or agitated, it’s very rewarding when you manage to engage with these people to de-escalate a situation and help them understand that hospital staff are there to help them.”
“It’s fair to say that no two days are the same and I really enjoy the variety the job brings.”
