Rehabilitation Engineering Centre first service to open at STARS

From November 2020, the Rehabilitation Engineering Centre will relocate from its current premises at Windsor to Metro North’s new Surgical, Treatment and Rehabilitation Service (STARS) at Herston.

Peter Slattery, Director Rehabilitation Engineering Centre said that the purpose-built area at STARS matches the requirements of its service delivery model and patient needs in a number of ways.

Being co-located with the rehabilitation services at STARS will provide us with great synergies to improve the quality of life for our clients, Peter said.

“The research focus of STARS will complement how we get feedback from rehabilitation and allied health professionals as part of our design and development process.

“The enhanced, modern work environment will enable us to continue to design and manufacture equipment to improve mobility for patients through innovative research, design and development to manufacture solutions for clients with mobility and assistive technology requirements.

“Our engineers and technicians will benefit from spacious workshops and additional storage and workspaces, and three new assessment rooms.

“There is an area to the rear of the workshop where we can make modifications to patient or carer’s vehicles.

“Our patients’ experience will also be enhanced when they visit the new, modern centre.”

The Rehabilitation Engineering Centre is conveniently located near the main entry and lobby of STARS. When clients arrive for their appointment, they will be greeted at a bright and welcoming reception area.

Opposite this there is a waiting room with an adjoining beverage bay to make them feel more comfortable when accessing services at STARS.

The Rehabilitation Engineering Centre will move to STARS located at 296 Herston Rd, Herston from November 2020.
