If you enjoy a good book, you might be surprised to know that literature lovers play an important role in our health service. 📖

Manager of TPCH Library Services Jana oversees thousands of physical and digital resources that support our medical team to make decisions every day.

I had no idea that medical libraries even existed but it’s a great opportunity to have an impact on patient and research outcomes, said Jana.

We have a lot of wonderful connections with the clinical staff. Most of our job is finding evidence to support patient care decisions, looking at research and also training and education.

We also maintain spaces like the library for people to escape the hustle and bustle of the hospital, we have a real focus on wellbeing.

Memory changes can be difficult and emotional, impacting not only the individual but also the people closest to them. Our TPCH Memory Clinic is here to help, supporting those experiencing changes in memory. 🧠

Specialists in Geriatric Medicine Dr Benignus and Dr Sarah are part of the team tackling growing dementia rates across Australia, with early assessment of memory issues playing an important role.

“Memory issues can present in simple ways like forgetting to attend appointments or pay bills, getting lost, changes with language, difficulty finding words, or repeating things,” Dr Benignus said.

“Memory issues are not always due to dementia and might be the result of other factors such as mental health, mood, sleep and medications—all of which can affect the brain’s function.

“That’s why early assessment is critical, as it allows people and their families to understand what is happening and plan ahead accordingly, especially if there is a clear diagnosis of early onset dementia.

After eight years in the role, our Chief Medical Officer Liz is stepping away, leaving some big shoes to fill!

Dr Liz spent 25 years working her way through the ranks in the Royal Australian Navy before returning to Queensland and commencing at Metro North in April 2017.

Shes guided our doctors each day, including leading Metro North through the pandemic - and is now ready to enjoy some travel and focus on specific areas of interest to her such as the disaster and emergency medicine space and plans for the Olympics.

Everyone here is so welcoming, and we have so many people with a can-do attitude. That really motivates me, working with people that understand the problem and are willing to sit down and work through issues we may face, said Liz, reflecting fondly on her time as CMO.

Covid really changed the ways we looked at things, some people thought I was mad when talking about doing drive through testing, but it really changed our ability to do virtual and at home care for the better.

[Metro North] is so large, but the scale and the flexibility is exciting. My advice is to go out and get to know the people from day one. The medical students, the junior doctors, the senior doctors and executives. If you do that, youll be able to do the most exciting things!

We congratulate Liz on her next move. 🫶 Think you think you have what it takes to step into the CMO role? Click the link in the comments to find out more and apply today! #WorkforusWednesday

For Caboolture Hospital midwife Alyce, the connection to her workplace goes well beyond her role - having given birth to all three of her children there and been cared for as a patient, by her own colleagues. 🧡

“I was looked after by the people I work alongside every day, which makes it really special,” Alyce said.

“My sister experienced a pregnancy loss 19 years ago and being around that environment made me look towards nursing and midwifery, I knew I wanted to support women through those moments.

“My favourite part is watching first-time parents become a family, I always look at the dad’s reaction too, that’s what really gets me going. Becoming a mother is such a huge transition and every woman’s journey is different.

Alyce is not only my best friend but the most amazing midwife, after doing a shift the night before she rushed to be by my side for the birth of my son. I was so lucky to share this moment with her and feel so safe in her hands.

Amazing Alyce!!

Alyce is a true gem 💎 so grateful to have met her on my twin pregnancy journey. I'll never forget her encouragement, support and solidarity in such a vulnerable time ❤️

You are the best Alyce. Caboolture is so lucky to have you xxx

Beautiful work Alyce 👏🏻🥰

Scrolling through fb just now and seeing this gorgeous face brought back all the wonderful memories of the birth of my rainbow baby 🌈🩵. Now, 20months old; I still remember Alyce encouraging me to keep going in between the contractions that I felt I had lost all momentum and when I felt I couldn’t give more. Her fierce reminders that I could and would were what lead me to my miracle baby boy. I have tears in my eyes remembering Alyce placing him on my chest with such joy in her eyes. I’m so grateful! 🩵🫶🏽

Alyce is just wonderful ❤️ beautiful midwife and beautiful person x

Love Alyce! 🫶🏻

One of the most beautiful, calming midwives we have had. Alyce was incredible through the birth of our youngest and was there for all of us, including my husband in the miracle of it all. She made it all so special as we welcomed our son into the world together. Such an amazing lady that I have the pleasure of knowing, and from such an incredible team at Caboolture Hospital Maternity Ward ❤️

What an incredible woman
