Epidemiology/ Health Surveillance

Epidemiology and Health Surveillance aims to describe disease patterns in human populations and identify those groups of people most vulnerable to ill health.

Working alongside our Communicable Disease, Environmental Health and Sexual Health teams, our Epidemiologists and Data Officers report on data trends to identify disease outbreaks, possible causes and inform of any public health actions required.

What we do:

• Surveillance of major chronic disease and preventive health behaviours
• Monitor data for emerging communicable disease threats
• Investigate communicable and non-communicable disease clusters and disease patterns as part of an Outbreak Control Team
• Initiate, design, conduct and report on public health investigations and research projects
• Provide epidemiological advice on research and evaluation of public health intervention and projects
• Perform data quality assurance activities on notifiable conditions and immunisation data in Metro North
• Work with Vaccine Service Providers in the area to improve the accuracy and timeliness of immunisation data through education
• Collate data for the School Immunisation Programme to support planning, reporting and service delivery
