The Sandgate and District Men’s Shed continues to play an important role in the care being provided to residents and longer-term patients at the Brighton Health Campus and through our community-based services.

Not only do they regularly welcome Brighton Health Campus residents and patients to their woodwork, metalwork and pyrography sessions, but they are also creating wonderful aids, crafts and mementos for patients and their families. Community and Oral Health Community Palliative Care Nurse Unit Manager Vicky Sinclair said more recently they have been generously providing amazing wooden carvings for family memory boxes. “At Community Palliative Care Service, we provide support and care to patients who want to spend their last days at home and guide their loved ones through their end-of-life journey,” Vicky said. “We offer our patients the opportunity to create a memory box for their loved ones which has some small mementos and items that is reflective of their life, personality and memory. “These memory boxes are very personal and could include small personal items and objects that remind the family of their life. “We are so thankful to the Sandgate and District Men’s Shed for carving such wonderful wooden carvings for the memory boxes that helps families say goodbye to their loved ones. “The wonderful carvings include birds, crosses and hearts.” Vicky said the members of the Men Shed are important part of the services being offered through the Community Palliative Care Service, and in particular the Brighton Health Campus where they are located. “Recently, the COH End of Life Sub-Committee shared an afternoon tea to thank and acknowledge the members of the Men’s Shed for their generous contribution and continued support,” she said. “These wooden carvings are caringly and compassionately included in the memory boxes given to many of our Community Palliative Care families each year.”
