Taking pride in creating welcoming open spaces
Across Metro North Health facilities an amazing team of gardeners takes pride in ensuring that our lawns and gardens are welcoming and in immaculate condition.
North Lakes North Lakes Health Precinct gardener Randall Henry was recently acknowledged for his beautifying work with a Community and Oral Health Shining Star Award.
When asked what the secret to ke
eping the gardens immaculate at North Lakes, it is a simple answer for Randall – having independence.
“It is great to do my own thing, allocate jobs, and identify what gardening, landscaping and maintenance is required each day,” Randall said.
“You have to have good time management skills. I have spent around 35 years now involved in facility maintenance and horticulture, and I also maintain the grounds at the North West Community Health Centre at Keperra.”
Randall, who has been at North Lakes Health Precinct for about five years, mows, trims lawns, hedges and trees, landscapes, fertilises and lays mulch, amongst other things most days.
North Lakes Health Precinct facility manager Angela Hackett’s praise is glowing for Randall’s precise work.
“Randall has consistently demonstrated a high level of skill, passion and attention to detail in caring for our gardens,” Angela said.
“His hard work and commitment have transformed the garden into a beautiful and welcoming space that enhances the overall environment of our organization for our patients and visitors.
“Not only does Randall excel in maintaining the garden’s appearance, he also shows a deep understanding of plant care, landscaping techniques and sustainability practices.”
Angela said he consistently goes above and beyond his duties, taking initiative to address any issues promptly and ensuring that the garden remains in pristine condition throughout the year.
North Lakes Health Precinct has a range of bedded and community services relating to home hospital, community palliative care, post acute care, complex chronic disease, diabetes, renal dialysis, cancer care and breastscreening.
