Dr Chirag Patel
Clinical Geneticist
Dr Patel trained in the UK before moving to Brisbane in 2013, and has over 15 years of experience in clinical genetics. His subspecialty interests are paediatric genetic diseases, genetic kidney diseases, clinical application of diagnostic genomic technology, and medical education.
He co-founded and co-leads the first Australian renal genetics clinical service. He is lead of the ‘diagnostic genomics’ and ‘education’ sub-committees of KidGen and has developed and curated diagnostic gene panels for genetic kidney disease for Australian clinical diagnostic laboratories. He is on the Clinical Review Panel for the Australian Functional Genomics Network, for review and selection of patients requiring functional studies to clarify suspicious variants/genes. He has developed and delivered medical education in clinical genetics and genomic medicine at state and national level through clinical placements, decision aids, clinical guidelines, lectures, seminars, workshops, webinars, and online modules.
