Meet Rhett, a Patient Support Officer at Redcliffe Hospital. 👋
Rhett’s journey as a Patient Support Officer started 34 years ago when friend who worked at Redcliffe Hospital told him about a vacant role, and he has been part of the team ever since.
“My role is varied, but essentially, I support patients around the hospital on beds and wheelchairs. I also handle soiled linen and help return patients from appointments—whatever needs to be done,” Rhett said.
What Rhett enjoys most about his role is the people he interacts with.
“I love interacting with people, not just the patients, but the staff too. The camaraderie and conversation really take people's minds off why they’re here. You never know what someone’s going through, so just having a chat or listening can make a big difference. Some patients tell me the most interesting stories,” Rhett explained.
Looking back on his 34 years at Redcliffe, Rhett reflects on the many connections he’s made and the rewarding work he’s done.
“It’s been a great place to work, and I’ve enjoyed every bit of it. I’ve met a lot of nice people along the way,” Rhett said.
