When Tropical cyclone Alfred hit, The Brighton Health Campus Gardens and Maintenance team knew they had a massive job ahead. 🌪️

Preparation began days before the cyclone made landfall. More than 1000 sandbags were deployed to protect buildings and critical areas, with trades like plumbers, electricians, carpenters and plasterers all pitching in.

“It was all hands on deck and it was just brilliant,” Ron said.

With his experience as a leader with the SES, Ron helped coordinate the preparation and clean-up, ensuring the team worked efficiently.

“We’re just trying to keep things tidy and get rid of hazards so everyone can get to work,” Josh said.

In just a day and a half, the grounds and car parks were cleared and safe of damaged trees and debris for staff and patients to use again.

The team takes a sustainable approach to their garden maintenance so fallen trees were turned into mulch and sand was repurposed to fill dips and divots across the campus.

A huge thank you to Ron, Josh and the Gardens and Maintenance crew for your incredible effort in the aftermath of Cyclone Alfred and helping keep everyone safe. 🙌

Meet Sookie and Emma, part of the Food Services team at The Prince Charles Hospital (TPCH).

While frontline staff cared for patients, Sookie, Emma and the Food Services team worked tirelessly behind the scenes to keep everyone fed. 🍽️

“I gave a hand wherever I could. It was really interesting, and I enjoyed understanding the roles in the kitchen and how important we are to hospital operations,” Sookie said.

Beyond feeding patients, the team also prepared extra meals for staff who had to stay overnight, working through staff shortages to make sure no one went without. ❤️

“We had a lot of camaraderie, everyone was worried about their homes, but being here with the team, getting meals to patients and doing something for the community felt really satisfying,” Emma said.

With lifts down and power on generators, delivering meals became a challenge, but they found ways to ensure patients and staff were looked after.

A huge thank you to Sookie, Emma and the entire Food Services team for keeping TPCH running when it mattered most. 👏
