A journey down memory lane

Our Community and Oral Health team of recreational officers are consistently finding ways to entertain our aged care residents at Gannet and Cooinda House.

Recently, the Gannet House residents enjoyed a visit from Faith, a 12-year-old mare, and her handler Merril.

Gannet House recreational officer Julie Euler said bringing Faith into aged care was an enjoyable journey down memory lane for many of the residents.

“It brought back some great memories and provides another creative and enjoyable way we can entertain the residents and bring some extra fun to their lives,” she said.

However, the recent visit was not the only thing that our recreational officers like Julie do to make our residents’ experience fun and entertaining.

Julie mentioned they regularly delivered themed activities based on popular celebrations such as St Patrick’s Day and Chinese New Year.

“The residents are also treated to bus outings, arts, crafts and music workshops, and party and movie nights,” she said.

Currently, Community and Oral Health manages two residential aged care facilities, Gannet and Cooinda House.

Gannet House is home to close to 40 residents who require a range of specialised care within the purpose-built residential facility. Clinical services are provided by skilled nursing staff with the support of allied health, administrative and ancillary staff.

In addition, Cooinda House is an aged care facility for residents requiring high-level residential aged care services which is centrally located in Redcliffe.

Cooinda House is a modern, 60-bed residential care facility which offers a home-like environment for its residents, which includes single resident rooms with ensuites or shared ensuites.
