With over 20 years of experience under her belt, Nurse Educator Jem helps to lead, teach and inspire the next generation of nurses at TPCH. 👩⚕️🩺
An average day may consist of leading nursing orientations, running courses and catching up with new graduate nurses on the wards to answer questions and provide feedback and guidance.
"I started at the RBWH in the late 90's, I wanted to do something different, so I went and did a Bachelor of Education whilst working full time as a nurse as well as my Master of Nursing," she said.
"The best days are when I'm interacting with the patients and our staff, both new graduate nurses but also existing staff that have complex situations that they have questions about, or if they are looking for career advice on how to move forward in their role."
Jem and the team are on the hunt for another Nurse Educator to join them. Click the link in the comments to apply!

Great job . Yes love seeing your face back at TPCH
Jen is an absolute treasure ! She is bright, cheery and always helpful. We are certainly blessed to have her.
Great work Jem, you are a legend 👏
I feel incredibly grateful to have had the opportunity to learn from Jem. As a Nurse Educator, Jem brings a calm, steady presence that immediately puts people at ease. What has always stood out to me is her genuine curiosity — she takes the time to understand each person’s learning needs, never assuming, always listening. That approach creates a space where growth feels supported rather than expected. Jem leads quietly but powerfully. She guides, encourages, and challenges in a way that builds confidence and capability in those around her. I’ve learnt so much from simply observing how she connects with staff and tailors her teaching to meet them where they are. This was highlighted at the Preceptorship workshop. Thank you, Jem, for your mentorship and for the impact you have on both individuals and the broader team. It hasn’t gone unnoticed.
Miss seeing your face around Jem! Such a beautiful soul & beautiful nurse! Really helped me out in my first year of nursing 🥰
Jem always lights up a room! An absolute credit to the education team 👩🏼⚕️

Attending the TPCH ED unexpectedly is no picnic, but it's certainly made better with gifted hand-knitted teddy bears and our Child Life Therapist Meenu! 🧸
Six-year-old Masie is just one recent visitor to our Kids ED who found comfort through play with Meenu, following a seizure as a result of her epilepsy.
The beautiful hand-knitted bears given to little patients like Masie are made by volunteers, including 102-year-old Dale, the mother of paediatric ED Doctor Faye.
"We come to the hospital a bit, but this makes it more fun and takes the pressure off," said Masie's Mum, Chelyce. 🫶
"We can't always go home straight away as we wait for tests, so this is a good distraction for Masie."

Nutrition plays a vital role in managing dementia but can often be overlooked for other aspects of care. The Memory Diet Clinic at The Prince Charles Hospital provides targeted nutritional care for those living at home with dementia and dedicated support for carers and loved ones. ❤️🩹🥪
The service was collaboratively designed with geriatricians, dietitians, nurses, and individuals with lived experience of dementia spearheaded by project co-leads and dieticians Bri and Hannah.
“We identified significant barriers to people with dementia accessing appropriate nutritional care, largely due to a lack of services tailored to their specific needs,” Hannah said.
“Our clinic is led by dietitians with extensive experience in geriatric care. We recognise that the patient experience is really important, and that meaningful support for loved ones and carers is essential."
“We aim to reduce stress around nutrition and ultimately support patients while empowering those who care for them,” Bri added.
This service is currently available to those under the care of a TPCH geriatrician and have a dementia diagnosis.
