The year was 1985 - the TV series 'Neighbours' had just launched, Simple Minds' 'Don't You Forget About Me' was sweeping the charts, and nurse Lorraine had just moved into the nursing quarters at RBWH to start her career.
That was 40 years ago now, having shaped many positive changes in that time including in clinical roles and safety and quality.
Lorraine spent 36 of those 40 years at TPCH, largely focussed on patient improvements.
"Having a ‘bird’s-eye view’ of patient care across the organisation allows us to transform information into meaningful action, ensuring lessons are learned and improvements are made to support safer care for every patient," Lorraine said.
"Reflecting on the past 40 years, I feel incredibly privileged to have been part of so many patients’ journeys and to have worked alongside such dedicated healthcare professionals."

"I used to love reading a good murder mystery and sewing my own clothes. We didn't have kids of our own, but I made all the clothes for myself and our three great-nieces. These days it's puzzles and code crackers that keep my brain going; it's good because you can pick them up and put them back down. I was a telephonist with Telstra from 1966 until the 90's and used to socialise often. I still enjoy visiting friends with my husband; it's important to mix around with others and find a day each week to get out and be social."

I dont be long to this group but when I saw this photo I had to do a double take ,she looks exactly like my mum down to every detail (our souls have carbin copies of us in different countries) my mum passed in 2019 and was wired up like this ,my late mother also was a reader and did sadoko .
Patients with a range of serious health conditions are now much closer to innovative therapies and medical devices, thanks to a new Clinical Trials Centre at The Prince Charles Hospital. 🔬📝
It’s the first time in Queensland and only the second time in Australia that a centre of this kind has been built within a hospital, rather than as a standalone facility.
Assistant Nursing Director Jenny is excited about the life-changing opportunities the new centre can offer, not only for our patients who want to take part in trials, but also in freeing up hospital capacity to treat acutely unwell people. ✅🙌
“The new centre can offer investigator‑initiated and industry‑sponsored drug and device trials, observational studies and registries,” Jenny said.
“Evidence-based studies give patients access to new opportunities that will improve the health outcomes for patients at TPCH, Metro North Health and across Queensland.”
Huge advancements like this are what give patients and families hope for better health outcomes and treatment options

Rhys was in his early twenties when his touch football game turned into a life-altering emergency. ⚕️⚡
Rhys had a cardiac arrest on the field and only then discovered he had a condition that would eventually require a heart transplant, with his operation making him the 500th recipient at TPCH.
He is now a Community Ambassador for the Prince Charles Hospital Foundation The Common Good Au and was onsite as they celebrated their 40th anniversary this week. 🎉🙌
"There were so many times when research saved my life," Rhys shares.
"It gets better over time, it'll go on to save even more - the impact research will have in the future is enormous."
Wow. Well done to Rhys and all who were behind the scenes doing everything to make this all possible. I am almost 65 and was born with a CHD. I was a world first to survive the operation at age 11 after 2 other surgeries to keep me going till then. They didn't do heart transplants when I was a kid, because they didn't have the know how. You have an amazing life ahead no doubt. Well done :3

With 18 years of experience under his belt, you can only begin to imagine the number of lives TPCH Patient Service Officer Matt has touched in that time.
Matt is placed in the Cardiac Investigations Unit, where he enjoys building rapport with regular patients who come in for treatment.
"Some of the more memorable patients love to banter with me during State of Origin, and it’s especially fun when they barrack for New South Wales!" he said.
“I enjoy working in a great team, both in patient services and in the CIU, and know it’s important to do my work well so clinical staff can focus on direct patient care."

40 is a magic number at TPCH this week and is especially important to patient Vicky and her partner Tony, as she's hoping to walk back down the aisle for their 40th wedding anniversary soon! 🥰💑
Vicky suffered a stroke while undergoing open heart surgery last year, and has spent 100 days in hospital, with three of those weeks being in the ICU. During her recovery, she has had to relearn how to eat, walk, talk and use her left hand.
Vicky has worked closely with her wonderful TPCH team of physios, speech therapists, OT's and nurses, and has used the upgraded installations in the mobility garden, with funds donated as part of the “Rehab Path to Recovery” Project from The Common Good Au
Her husband Tony and sons have been with her every step of the way, with extra physio lessons on weekends and visits with the grandkids in the new area featuring wheelchair friendly updates and installations that mimic everyday challenges faced by recovering patients at home. 🌿👩🦽➡️👣
"We make sure to get out and about every day, with the best part of my recovery enjoying this peaceful space outside of the usual hospital environment," Vicky said.

I dont be long to this group but when I saw this photo I had to do a double take ,she looks exactly like my mum down to every detail (our souls have carbin copies of us in different countries) my mum passed in 2019 and was wired up like this ,my late mother also was a reader and did sadoko .
Patients with a range of serious health conditions are now much closer to innovative therapies and medical devices, thanks to a new Clinical Trials Centre at The Prince Charles Hospital. 🔬📝
It’s the first time in Queensland and only the second time in Australia that a centre of this kind has been built within a hospital, rather than as a standalone facility.
Assistant Nursing Director Jenny is excited about the life-changing opportunities the new centre can offer, not only for our patients who want to take part in trials, but also in freeing up hospital capacity to treat acutely unwell people. ✅🙌
“The new centre can offer investigator‑initiated and industry‑sponsored drug and device trials, observational studies and registries,” Jenny said.
“Evidence-based studies give patients access to new opportunities that will improve the health outcomes for patients at TPCH, Metro North Health and across Queensland.”
Huge advancements like this are what give patients and families hope for better health outcomes and treatment options

Rhys was in his early twenties when his touch football game turned into a life-altering emergency. ⚕️⚡
Rhys had a cardiac arrest on the field and only then discovered he had a condition that would eventually require a heart transplant, with his operation making him the 500th recipient at TPCH.
He is now a Community Ambassador for the Prince Charles Hospital Foundation The Common Good Au and was onsite as they celebrated their 40th anniversary this week. 🎉🙌
"There were so many times when research saved my life," Rhys shares.
"It gets better over time, it'll go on to save even more - the impact research will have in the future is enormous."
Wow. Well done to Rhys and all who were behind the scenes doing everything to make this all possible. I am almost 65 and was born with a CHD. I was a world first to survive the operation at age 11 after 2 other surgeries to keep me going till then. They didn't do heart transplants when I was a kid, because they didn't have the know how. You have an amazing life ahead no doubt. Well done :3

With 18 years of experience under his belt, you can only begin to imagine the number of lives TPCH Patient Service Officer Matt has touched in that time.
Matt is placed in the Cardiac Investigations Unit, where he enjoys building rapport with regular patients who come in for treatment.
"Some of the more memorable patients love to banter with me during State of Origin, and it’s especially fun when they barrack for New South Wales!" he said.
“I enjoy working in a great team, both in patient services and in the CIU, and know it’s important to do my work well so clinical staff can focus on direct patient care."

40 is a magic number at TPCH this week and is especially important to patient Vicky and her partner Tony, as she's hoping to walk back down the aisle for their 40th wedding anniversary soon! 🥰💑
Vicky suffered a stroke while undergoing open heart surgery last year, and has spent 100 days in hospital, with three of those weeks being in the ICU. During her recovery, she has had to relearn how to eat, walk, talk and use her left hand.
Vicky has worked closely with her wonderful TPCH team of physios, speech therapists, OT's and nurses, and has used the upgraded installations in the mobility garden, with funds donated as part of the “Rehab Path to Recovery” Project from The Common Good Au
Her husband Tony and sons have been with her every step of the way, with extra physio lessons on weekends and visits with the grandkids in the new area featuring wheelchair friendly updates and installations that mimic everyday challenges faced by recovering patients at home. 🌿👩🦽➡️👣
"We make sure to get out and about every day, with the best part of my recovery enjoying this peaceful space outside of the usual hospital environment," Vicky said.
