Social Support

What we know about grief is that most people who have been bereaved, will be ok with the support of family, friends, colleagues, and their community. Social support can meet many of our needs including emotional support, practical support, and companionship.

Whilst we encourage people who are grieving to connect with their family and friends for support, it can also help to connect with people who have had a similar experience to you or to connect with people outside your immediate circle and engage with supports in the broader community. Below are some links to directories to help you identify available community supports, along with links to grief specific supports.

Neighbourhood Centres

Neighbourhood centres play a key role in building community connection and cohesion and provides services and supports. Neighbourhood centres play a vital role in connecting and supporting people who may be experiencing social isolation and loneliness. They also can facilitate access to formal and informal support.

Bribie Island, Caboolture, Lutwyche, Deception Bay, Kallangur, Bardon, Nundah, Mitchelton, Lawnton, Redcliffe, Sandgate, Kalinga, and Zillmere. Click on the directory below to find more details on your local neighbourhood centre.
