Supporting you to navigate a changed world.
The Metro North Palliative Care Grief and Bereavement Service would like to invite you to one of our Grief and Bereavement Information Sessions. We want to acknowledge the significance of your loss and reassure you that grief and bereavement is a normal process, though can feel foreign and overwhelming. We know this can be a time of much confusion and many questions. Should it feel like this? When does it end? I cry too much. I am not crying enough. How can I help others? With so many questions, grief can sometimes be a difficult path to navigate.
Although your grief experience is individualised to you, the Grief and Bereavement Information Session aims to increase your understanding about the grieving process by exploring the different ways in which people grieve, learning helpful ways to navigate your grief, including identifying when it might be useful to seek support.
What will we cover in the session?
- What is grief? How does it show up?
- Dispelling grief myths
- What helps? Do I need help?
- Looking to the future
- Sources of support
The session runs for approximately 2 hours. Please arrive 10 minutes before the scheduled start time to meet the facilitators and other attendees and to get settled. You are welcome to stay following the session to ask further questions or have a chat with the facilitators or other participants. Family and friends are welcome to attend with you. The session is not suited for children, however there will be written resources available to help parents and grandparents support children and younger adolescents. Each person attending will need to RSVP their attendance separately.

When should I attend?
Following the death of someone important to us there is a lot for us to do and process. Attending an information group is best done when you feel ready to explore your thoughts and feelings about your loss and have the head and heart space to do so. There is no rush to attend. Sometimes it can help to attend a few months after the death.
