Hand Hygiene

Clean hands help prevent infection. To reduce the risk and spread of infections, we ask our patients, visitors and staff to keep their hands clean.

Visitors. The best way to make sure you and your loved ones stay safe from infection is to ‘Clean In and Clean Out’. This means that you clean your hands on the way in to visiting any patient and clean your hands on the way out – every single time.

You can choose to use the hand gel or soap and water to clean your hands. It is also okay to ask a staff member to wash their hands if you are not sure they have.

If you are unwell, it is recommended you do not to visit your friend or family member in hospital.

Patients. Keeping your hands clean is important to keep you safe from infection while in hospital. It is okay to use the hand gel provided or soap and water to clean your hands. Read about when you should clean your hands while in hospital.

You have the right to safe healthcare while in hospital. It is okay to ask a staff member to wash their hands if you are not sure they have and to ask your family and friends to stay away from the hospital if they are unwell.
