If a spoonful of sugar helps the medicine go down, then Erin's efforts will no doubt keep staff smiling for a long time! 😋🎂

As Assistant Director of Pharmacy at TPCH, Erin is part of a team expanding pharmacy services to meet the increasing demands of the growing community.

But when she's not cooking up ideas to better the service, she's baking sweet treats for her colleagues.

"I'm a big believer of joy at work," Erin said.

"When our small team's interest in cakes and competition grew to be a hospital wide initiative, I was honoured to be a part of it.

"Happy staff deliver the best quality care, and smalls joys like this provide a sense of community, contributing to staff wellbeing."

Working as an Administration Officer is all about having your finger on the pulse, and Ruby shares how varied the career paths can be at Metro North. 👆

Most days Ruby works on a busy hospital ward at TPCH, where she might be admitting patients, updating charts and booking appointments, all in a day's work!

"Being able to make a small difference to a patient's day has me finishing my own day feeling happy and glad to be doing such a rewarding job," Ruby shares.

Ruby is balancing her AO role with studying a Bachelor of Midwifery and is excited to continue working as a new graduate next year. 🚼

"My background knowledge of how multidisciplinary teams work as an AO has helped me understand how a team works, and it is something I am proud to be a part of."

If you're interested in joining Ruby and the team of Administration Officers, check out the vacancies available at TPCH.

It’s fair to say that 27-year-old Jesse has spent more time thinking about his health than others his age. Born with a congenital heart condition called Truncus Arteriosus, Jesse has had multiple open-heart surgeries, the first when he was just days old. ❤️‍🩹

Last year, Jesse returned to the hospital and spent three months at TPCH, suffering from Endocarditis, a potentially life-threatening inflammation of the heart’s inner lining caused by infection.

“My symptoms came on more or less overnight, to the point where I could hardly walk without feeling faint and was experiencing extreme fevers and sweats,” Jesse said.

“Fortunately, I got treatment and antibiotics before bacteria from the heart infection reached my bloodstream and led to sepsis.”

Jesse is now well and enjoying life, including pursuing a career as a hospital social worker, thanks to the care he received at Queensland's specialist heart and lung hospital.

If you wish to support research to help patients like Jesse, consider donating to The Common Good Au on their Giving Day tomorrow, where your donation will be doubled.

"I was in charge of running the team installing windows and doors in the Blues Point Tower in Sydney back in the day, it was a good honest trade. But outside work, I was also lucky enough to sail in the Sydney to Hobart and am proud to say that we led the race at one point! If I could give the kids some advice, I'd say look after your health, make your bed and help your mum."
