With 18 years of experience under his belt, you can only begin to imagine the number of lives TPCH Patient Service Officer Matt has touched in that time.

Matt is placed in the Cardiac Investigations Unit, where he enjoys building rapport with regular patients who come in for treatment.

"Some of the more memorable patients love to banter with me during State of Origin, and it’s especially fun when they barrack for New South Wales!" he said.

“I enjoy working in a great team, both in patient services and in the CIU, and know it’s important to do my work well so clinical staff can focus on direct patient care."

A vacancy in Patient Support Services is available now, so check out the link in the comments below to join this wonderful team. 👇

40 is a magic number at TPCH this week and is especially important to patient Vicky and her partner Tony, as she's hoping to walk back down the aisle for their 40th wedding anniversary soon! 🥰💑

Vicky suffered a stroke while undergoing open heart surgery last year, and has spent 100 days in hospital, with three of those weeks being in the ICU. During her recovery, she has had to relearn how to eat, walk, talk and use her left hand.

Vicky has worked closely with her wonderful TPCH team of physios, speech therapists, OT's and nurses, and has used the upgraded installations in the mobility garden, with funds donated as part of the “Rehab Path to Recovery” Project from The Common Good Au

Her husband Tony and sons have been with her every step of the way, with extra physio lessons on weekends and visits with the grandkids in the new area featuring wheelchair friendly updates and installations that mimic everyday challenges faced by recovering patients at home. 🌿👩‍🦽‍➡️👣

"We make sure to get out and about every day, with the best part of my recovery enjoying this peaceful space outside of the usual hospital environment," Vicky said.

Cath Lab Nurse Zuzana has been on her own health journey outside the 9-5 at TPCH, recently celebrating being cancer-free after going through breast cancer. 💝

After being given the 'all-clear', Zuzana shared how appreciative of the care and dedication she received, including deciding to grow her hair and shave it to raise over $2000 for breast cancer awareness with all donations going to the BreastScreen clinic in Chermside where her cancer was detected. 🪒👩‍🦲

"When you face the results, your heart and your head stop communicating," Zuzana says.

"It is such a shock, and then you have people in the clinic who organise everything and make appointments with specialists, so you don't have to worry about it.

"I am eternally grateful for everything, and as a healthcare professional, I do appreciate the support and gentle care given to me in this clinic."

👏 #ShoutoutSaturday to our BreastScreen team and we're happy for you Zuzana!

If reading is to the mind what exercise is to the body, then the new Book Nook at TPCH is a win-win for everyone! 📚💪

Admin relief and casual pool coordinator Kristine is an avid reader can see the benefits of the Book Nook on Level 1, an initiative rolled out to deliver care and support for dementia and delirium patients. 🥰📖

“I love to escape into a book, and this provides the opportunity for patients to find new stories and discover new authors,” says Kristine.

“It’s great to see recommendations from staff and patients through their donations, and the pictures featured on the walls of the old Chermside library bring familiarity that supports patients with dementia who are moving through this area.

“Now I know where I can donate my read books for others to enjoy, because I have so many!”

Imagine going to bed at night and waking up the next morning not being able to hear? 👂🧏

Metro North Clinical Nurse Consultant Jane has been a nurse for 23 years, and has worked as a McGrath Foundation nurse, supporting breast cancer patients at RBWH and TPCH.

However, Jane was unaware she was about to face a significant personal challenge of her own.

“I lost my hearing in my left ear nearly two years ago, so my disability is very new,” Jane said.

“When I returned to work, post cochlear surgery, no one really knew how to help me, including me,” Jane said.

“I want to help raise awareness, so everyone has disability at the forefront of their thinking in all aspects of work and life, and I think Metro North ENABLE will be the way forward.”

Go you Janey! How awesome are you?! ❤️

Jane You’ve been incredibly resilient through such a challenging change! Disability awareness in our staff is so important. Xx

Thank you for sharing your story Jane ❤️

such an inspiration & amazing human ❤️

Brilliant - Open Access for All

Queensland Health and Metro North Health based on the comments, sounds like a great opportunity for all health care workers to learn about Sudden Sensorineural Hearing Loss - and how early intervention may assist with prognosis. 🙌🏼

How traumatic for you Jane... but you are amazing Nurse and a great work colleague

Im a RN too with cochlear implants in both ears. Working with a hearing loss is hard! If you have any questions feel free to shoot me a message.

Jane is such an amazing person and nurse ❤️❤️

Yeap I lost hearing in left ear after a big brain injury.

Wow Jane so sorry to learn about your surgery etc. Good for you to move forward and promote this awareness in the workplace. ❤️

I’m an RN and I became deaf in 1 ear overnight too! That was 18m ago. It’s bloody hard. Nurses stations are LOUD.

I had the same experience but it was March 2020. Covid meant I couldn’t get in to see anyone. Some of the treatment options had closed. Had my cochlear surgery November 2020 and yes it’s hard. Good on you for advocating for yourself and others. Good luck

Amazing lady 🌺

Jane, you are a dead set legend and an inspiration for your perseverance! 🙏🏼

Aww you are such an inspiration lovely lady 💞💞

Such incredible courage on a challenging journey ❤️

Mines my Right ear and had my Cochlear surgery May 2023. Would love to learn sign language

🥳🙏

Miss Jane, you have been a champion adapting, you should be so proud 🩷🩷

Did you get your surgery with Qhealth ?

Was it stress related your ear loss?

My mom was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in 2019. It spread to her lungs and liver. The pain she felt was unbearable and this affected my family. She was on gemcitabine, capecitabine Vitamin C nd Collagen supplements but to no avail. If not for the help of Herbalist Eugene who used his herbal medicine to cure her, she would be deceased by now. I recommend everyone to use it. 👇👇 www.facebook.com/herbalist-eugene-937568042773883
