Queensland Health Graduate Portal Closes – Sunday 13th August 2023

Application Process

All applications for a graduate registered nurse or midwife position must be submitted through the Queensland Government Graduate Portal.

Information in relation to the current Queensland Health campaign including eligibility criteria, supporting document requirements as well as general information in relation to your application is available via the Nursing and Midwifery graduate program site. It is recommended that all applicants read the information to ensure they understand and are able to comply with the requirements to apply for a position.

Only complete applications will be accepted.

What is a complete application?

Complete applications include

  • Completion of all mandatory field on application form
  • Uploading of all requested documents
    • Cover letter
    • Academic transcript
    • Referee reports x 2
    • General criminal history check application and consent form
    • Vaccine preventable diseases evidence form + evidence
    • Tuberculosis risk assessment
    • ID x 3
    • Evidence of Australian work rights & visa if not an Australian Citizen

Hospital and Health Services will be given access to their first preference applications shortly after the Portal closing date and will commence their individual selection processes.

Referee Reports

Applicants are required to provide 2 referee reports. Referee reports must be on the Queensland Health report template.

Referee requirements

1st referee report must be from:

  • a nursing/midwifery clinical facilitator from your final year of study

or

  • a nurse unit manager/preceptor who has been directly responsible for your clinical placement supervision for 2 weeks or more full-time (or a minimum of 80 hours placement)

and

  • has direct knowledge of your clinical performance.

2nd referee report is required from:

If currently employed or have been employed in the last 2 years:

  • a current line manager (or previous line manager from within the last 2 years, if not currently employed) who is or has been your direct supervisor.

This does not need to be a nursing/midwifery position.

If not currently employed:

  • your supervisor for a volunteer position (e.g. St John’s Ambulance, Red Cross, sports coaching). The referee must be your direct supervisor.

or

  • a nursing/midwifery clinical facilitator from your final year of study

or

  • nurse unit manager/preceptor who has been directly responsible for your clinical placement supervision for 2 weeks or more full-time (or a minimum of 80 hours placement) and has direct knowledge of your clinical performance.
