Dr Oonagh's workshops at Redcliffe Hospital are improving staff skills and knowledge, preparing them for real-life emergencies. 🚨🚑

Dr Oonagh leads hands-on workshops training staff on safer transfers for critically ill patients.

“I’m passionate about both education and retrieval medicine and am working to improve staff knowledge and patient outcomes in this area,” Dr Oonagh said.

From moving critically ill patients quickly with care and dignity to mastering teamwork and communication, these adrenaline-pumping scenarios are designed to feel very real to everyone involved.

“There was an ambulance on site for the workshop to enable participants to work together and with their QAS colleagues in an environment they may encounter in the real world.”🩺

Now in its third year, Dr Oonagh is eager to expand the reach of the workshops beyond Redcliffe Hospital to improve outcomes for more patients.

Cancer diagnosis and treatment can significantly impact a person's ability to manage everyday tasks at home and work. That's where cancer care occupational therapists (OTs) can help!

Specialised cancer OTs can help with the management of cancer-related fatigue, sleep difficulties, memory difficulties and a range of other factors that may limit participation in everyday tasks.

Bernadette is a cancer care OT who has been working at Redcliffe Hospital for the last 17 years, helping patients participate in everyday tasks and providing strategies to manage the impact of cancer and treatment side effects.

"Life doesn't stop when you're diagnosed with cancer. It's important to continue with meaningful and purposeful activity across the entire cancer care journey," says Bernadette.

It's OT week, and Redcliffe Hospital is looking for a Senior Occupational Therapist in Cancer Care. If this interests you, apply now: smartjobs.qld.gov.au/jobs/QLD-RD597000
