Metro North Health offers a series of grants specifically targeted to increase research capacity across Metro North.

Clinician Research Fellowships
The Clinician Research Fellowships program is specifically designed to allow Metro North’s emerging and highly skilled clinician researchers to develop and advance a body of research aligned to the Metro North Research Strategy.

Pre-RHD Scholarships
Pre-Research Higher Degree (RHD) Scholarships enable clinicians to further develop their research plan, methodology and supervision plans, with the goal of achieving enrolment in a Research Higher Degree (Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) or Masters of Philosophy (MPhil)

Metro North Grants
Nursing and Midwifery Research Internships
The Metro North and QUT Nursing and Midwifery Research Internship enables Metro North Nurses and Midwives to undertake research under the guidance and direction of a QUT Nursing Researcher and supports the career and professional development for nurses/midwives.
RBWH Research Grants
The Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital (RBWH), with the generous support of the Study, Education and Research Trust Account (SERTA) Advisory Committee and the RBWH Foundation offers a grant suite that supports RBWH staff to undertake original and highly innovative research projects.
Letter of support guidelines
Metro North encourages researchers to apply for external funding and grant opportunities that may require a letter of support from the researcher’s institution. It is the responsibility of the researcher to draft the letter of support and allow sufficient time for review and approval by the relevant Facility Director of Research.
The following guidance is provided by the Metro North Office of Research to assist researchers. The Metro North Office of Research does not hold budget or have authority to commit expenditure of funds and does not review or approve letters of support.
Timeframes
It is the responsibility of the researcher to identify and meet the key dates for a grant program. This includes allowing sufficient time for review and approval by all relevant parties, including receipt of signed documents and upload/submission to a grant portal or application form.
- Allow a minimum of five business days for review and approval of a letter of support that does not commit Metro North to any financial contributions
- Allow a minimum of ten business days for review and approval of a letter of support that commits Metro North to financial contributions.
Letter of support template
The Metro North Office of Research does not provide a letter of support template. It is the responsibility of the researcher to draft the letter according to the conditions outlined in the granting body guidelines.
A Standard letter with crest template is available on the Metro North templates (QHEPS) website.
Approvals
It is the responsibility of the researcher to ensure all requisite approvals are sought prior to submitting a letter of support for a grant application.
Where the letter of support commits Metro North to financial contributions, Business Manager review and approval must be sought prior to submitting the letter of support to the Facility Director of Research or delegate. Business Manager approval may be evidenced by email.
The letter of support, including any relevant Business Manager approval, must be submitted through the relevant Facility Director of Research for review and approval:

Where the grant application includes two Metro North Facilities, the letter of support must include two signature blocks and be approved by both facilities.
