- Evaluating a co-developed pet robot intervention and implementation for residents with dementia in long-term care 4 May 2026CONCLUSION: This study demonstrates the feasibility and potential impact of a 6-week pet robot intervention and implementation in a RACF facility to support residents living with dementia. Findings provide insights into strategies that might increase the routinisation of pet robots in dementia care; future studies could consider further refining, enhancing and formally evaluating these strategies.Wei Qi Koh
- The Use of Patient-Reported Outcome Measures in Paediatric Haematopoietic Stem Cell Transplant: A Systematic Review 4 May 2026CONCLUSIONS: PROMs are not routinely used to inform clinical practice in paediatric HSCT, and current evidence provides only a partial understanding of symptom trajectories and lived symptom experiences during the paediatric acute transplant admission. To realise the full potential of PROMs in enhancing symptom assessment and management, systematic PROMs integration into clinical workflows is required, […]Rachel Penny
- Canada's "American-style" dental health system 4 May 2026No abstractKevin B Laupland
- User design and testing of SmartHeart: A mobile app for heart failure self-care 4 May 2026CONCLUSION: The SmartHeart app was refined through user-centred design process involving direct feedback from individuals with heart failure, resulting in a self-care tool with user-friendly features, to be further evaluated in future research. These user-driven enhancements support self-care engagement and highlight the app's potential for real-world use and broader clinical integration.Reza Daryabeygi-Khotbehsara
- Socioeconomic Barriers for Newly Transferred Young Adults With Congenital Heart Disease 4 May 2026CONCLUSIONS: Socioeconomic factors are associated with access to specialized ACHD services among young adults. Strategies to ensure equity in care should be explored.Jodie Beuth
- Procedure-related PD-peritonitis following gastroscopy and colonoscopy: A 15-year binational data-linkage study from Australia and New Zealand 4 May 2026AimTo describe the risk of post-procedural peritoneal dialysis (PD) peritonitis episodes following gastroscopy and colonoscopy over a 15-year period in Australia and New Zealand.BackgroundThe risk of post-procedural PD peritonitis is well recognised following colonoscopy and current ISPD guidelines recommend prophylactic antibiotics. Current guidelines do not recommend this prior to gastroscopy alone due to low level […]Shaun Chandler
- Open Versus Hybrid and Total Minimally Invasive Transthoracic Ivor Lewis Esophagectomy Following Neoadjuvant FLOT Chemotherapy: An Australian and New Zealand Cohort Study 4 May 2026CONCLUSIONS: In ANZ, MIO was associated with fewer complications and comparable survival compared to open transthoracic esophagectomy. These findings support the safety of MIO in lower-volume settings in the era of perioperative FLOT chemotherapy.Brendan Desmond
- Remifentanil patient-controlled analgesia for labour analgesia: guidance from the obstetric anaesthetists' association: Recommendations for well tolerated provision of remifentanil PCA for labour analgesia 4 May 2026CONCLUSIONS: Remifentanil PCA can provide effective labour analgesia, particularly when neuraxial techniques are contraindicated or declined. Despite some inherent risks, when managed within defined parameters, there is now an established record of efficacy and safety. It is essential that labour wards have clear protocols for administration and monitoring, and for staff to be trained in […]Damien A Hughes
- KCNQ2 neonatal epilepsy: Impact of prompt diagnosis and treatment, and early predictors of outcome severity 4 May 2026OBJECTIVE: To determine whether prompt genetic diagnosis in children with KCNQ2 neonatal epilepsy enabling targeted therapy is associated with improved outcomes, and identify early predictors of developmental outcomes.Trupti Jadhav
- Performance of EQ5D-5L and AHPEQS for measuring outcomes and experiences of patients with peripherally inserted central catheters: a secondary analysis 3 May 2026No abstractEmily N Larsen
- Vasopressin and Major Adverse Kidney Events in Patients Requiring Vasopressor Support After Cardiac Surgery: A Multicenter Retrospective Cohort Study 3 May 2026CONCLUSIONS: Adjunctive vasopressin use was not associated with major adverse kidney events or mortality in patients requiring vasopressors after cardiac surgery. Heterogeneity of treatment effect by illness severity warrants prospective evaluation.Kyle C White
- A simulation study of a long-term neurodevelopmental care pathway for children with congenital heart disease 2 May 2026CONCLUSION: Simulation modelling was useful for understanding outcomes from a neurodevelopmental pathway and how differences in screening and assessment affected health service interactions. Findings may inform policy and resource planning for future neurodevelopmental pathways.Pakhi Sharma
- Colorectal Cancer Complicated by Pulmonary Embolism and Potential Takotsubo Cardiomyopathy in a Person With Cystic Fibrosis: Diagnostic and Management Considerations 1 May 2026People with cystic fibrosis have an elevated risk of gastrointestinal malignancy. The prevalence of colorectal cancer is increasing with improving life expectancy in the CFTR modulator era. We report a case of colorectal cancer in a patient with severe cystic fibrosis lung disease, which was complicated by pulmonary embolism and potential Takotsubo cardiomyopathy. This case […]Laura Frederiksen
- Circadian Rhythm, Clock Genes and Osteoarthritis: The Dream of a Good Night's Sleep 1 May 2026Circadian rhythm is an endogenous 24-hour timing system that coordinates metabolic, inflammatory, and reparative processes required for tissue homeostasis. Disruption of this temporal organization, increasingly common because of shift work, sleep disturbance, and other modern lifestyle factors, has been implicated in chronic inflammatory and metabolic diseases, including osteoarthritis (OA). Experimental studies indicate that circadian dysregulation […]Hong Xu
- Maximising the patient voice in health care: A scoping review of secondary use of routinely collected qualitative open-ended patient reported experience measure comments 1 May 2026CONCLUSION: Secondary use of open-ended PREM comments for research is growing, but it is not yet widely used. Using these already collected data for research eliminates the time and cost of additional data collection and incorporates patient voice into research. A formal framework for secondary use of open-ended PREM comments will support incorporating these data […]Teyl Engstrom
