- A pragmatic implementation and outcomes evaluation of the older persons emergency network acute outreach service (OPEN AOS) model utilising the integrated PRISM and RE-AIM framework: the OPEN AOS study protocol 13 January 2026No abstractSharon Hodby
- Holding Hope Over Time: Evaluating the Enduring Impact of the AIMS Suicide Prevention Model 12 January 2026This two-year follow-up study evaluated the sustained impact of the AIMS suicide prevention pathway, a structured, short-term intervention delivered by the Wellbeing Team (WBT) in a large Australian metropolitan mental health service. The retrospective cohort included 232 individuals who engaged with the WBT for at least 2 weeks and were discharged to primary care. Re-presentation […]Manaan Kar Ray
- Focal irreversible electroporation for the treatment of localised prostate cancer: a systematic review 12 January 2026CONCLUSIONS: Oncological outcomes, although still maturing, appear promising. Functional outcomes compare favourably against whole-gland treatment, particularly in the primary treatment setting. Focal IRE appears to have a role in salvage treatment. Comparative studies are needed to evaluate its role amongst the growing array of treatments for localised PCa.Jeremy Cheng
- Differences in Clinical Outcomes Among Patients With Mold Fungemia 12 January 2026Mold bloodstream infections are rare but highly fatal, especially with Lomentospora prolificans and Scedosporium spp. Among 84 episodes over 20 years, the 30-day mortality rate was 38%. Cancer, intensive care unit admission, and healthcare-onset infection were linked to increased mortality rates, highlighting the need for early detection and better management strategies.Adam G Stewart
- Clinicians' perspectives on electronic medical records use in diabetes outpatient Care: A qualitative study 12 January 2026CONCLUSION: This study concludes that while the EMRs improved safety, efficiency, and access to information, their design and implementation also introduced burdens that negatively affected clinician experience. EMRs significantly shape the healthcare workforce, influencing workflow, wellbeing, and professional engagement. In outpatient diabetes care, specific workflow challenges such as glycaemic data integration highlight that existing EMR […]Wenyong Wang
- Radiation Therapy Target Objectives For Tonsillar Cancer Treated with Unilateral Radiation Therapy - A Replanning Study From TROG 12.01 11 January 2026CONCLUSIONS: The results of this re-optimization study provide planning guidelines to guide dosimetrists and radiation oncologists on achievable OAR sparing when delivering URT.Glen Osbourne
- Outcomes in Patients Requiring VENO-Venous Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation After Cardiac Surgery: An Analysis From the PELS-1 Study 11 January 2026CONCLUSIONS: Reported outcomes of patients receiving V-V ECMO after cardiac surgery are poor, despite effective correction of gas exchange. Early recognition of isolated respiratory failure and careful patient selection should be promoted. Further research is needed to optimize management in this high-risk population.Pasquale Nardelli
- Best practice points for antimicrobial stewardship and infection prevention: a multidisciplinary approach to supportive care in patients with neutropenic fever 11 January 2026This chapter aims to provide an updated framework for whole-of-hospital neutropenic fever management, outlining best-practice principles to guide the integration of antimicrobial stewardship, infection prevention, microbiology, pharmacy and nursing within the multidisciplinary care of patients with neutropenic fever. A comprehensive literature search was performed using PUBMED, prioritising randomised controlled trials and notable observational studies since […]Gemma K Reynolds
- Consensus guidelines for initial management of neutropenic fever 11 January 2026This update of the Australasian consensus guidelines for the initial empiric management of neutropenic fever occurs in the context of major changes in cancer treatment paradigms, as well as advances in the management of sepsis and new models of care for infections since the last version of these guidelines in 2011. Acknowledging the important role […]Abby P Douglas
- Consensus guidelines for antibacterial prophylaxis in patients with neutropenia 11 January 2026Since the publication of the Australian consensus guidelines in 2011, the routine use of prophylactic antibiotics in patients with neutropenia has remained controversial, because of concern that the risks of promoting antimicrobial resistance outweighed the level of evidence that their use reduced mortality. Populations at risk have changed over this period and now include a […]Julian Lindsay
- Introduction to the 2024 Consensus Guidelines for the Management of Neutropenic Fever in Patients with Cancer: Principles & Practice of Neutropenic Fever 11 January 2026This is the introductory chapter to the 2024 Australasian Consensus Guidelines for the Management of Neutropenic Fever in Patients with Cancer, an update of the Australian consensus guidelines published in 2011. These guidelines reflect the new treatment paradigms for cancer care (such as immunotherapy, bispecific antibodies, oral targeted therapies and CAR T) given the changing […]Karin A Thursky
- Consensus guidelines for the subsequent management of neutropenic fever after empiric therapy 11 January 2026In the context of significant advances in the literature, this chapter of the 2024 Australasian Consensus Guidelines for the Management of Neutropenic Fever in Patients with Cancer addresses the management of patients beyond the first 72 h, focusing on high-risk patients. A writing group - including adult and paediatric representatives across infectious diseases, microbiology, haematology, […]Abby P Douglas
- CT Guided Microwave Ablation for Hepatocellular Carcinomas: Outcomes From a Tertiary Australian Centre 10 January 2026CONCLUSION: MWA provides an effective and feasible nonsurgical treatment option for solitary HCCs with reported local tumour progression, overall survival, and technical success consistent with internationally published literature.Andrew Whittering
- My family member's health and my mental health: A longitudinal matched cohort study 10 January 2026The biobehavioral family model posits that an individual's biobehavioral reactivity is influenced by their family's health. This study examined how one's mental health responds to a serious injury or illness to his or her close relative or family member using longitudinal cohort data of Australian adults sourced from the Household, Income and Labour Dynamics in […]Clifford Afoakwah
- Reduced Lengths of Hospital Stay But No Difference in Survivorship Following Robotic Arm-Assisted Primary Total Hip Arthroplasty at 3.5 Years Follow-Up: A Propensity Score-Matched Prospective Cohort Study 10 January 2026CONCLUSION: Although there was no difference in short-term revision risk in patients receiving an RA-THA versus a CO-THA, likely, the benefits from improved implant positioning are yet to be realized. This study is underpowered, and results should be interpreted with caution. The shorter HLOS observed in the RA-THA group may help offset the increase in […]Gregory Poyser
