- High Glucose Reduces Influenza and Parainfluenza Virus Productivity by Altering Glycolytic Pattern in A549 Cells 17 April 2025Influenza A virus is responsible for annual epidemics and occasional pandemics leading to significant mortality and morbidity in human populations. Parainfluenza viruses also contribute to lung infections and chronic lung disease. In this study, we investigated the effect of high glucose on the productivity of influenza A and Sendai (murine parainfluenza type 1) viruses in […]Kareem Awad
- The Use of Digital Devices to Monitor Physical Behavior in Motor Neuron Disease: Systematic Review 17 April 2025CONCLUSIONS: Remote monitoring of free-living physical behavior in MND is in its infancy but has the potential to quantify physical function. It is essential to develop a consensus statement, working toward agreed and standardized methods for data collection, analysis, and reporting.Lucy Samantha Musson
- Cost-effectiveness analysis of hydrophilic coated catheters for intermittent catheterisation in traumatic spinal cord injury in New Zealand 16 April 2025CONCLUSION: Reducing UTI's with HCIC has quality of life and economic benefits to the patient and healthcare system, as it is a common and costly complication in New Zealand. This model demonstrates that HCIC is likely to be cost-effective in New Zealand SCI patients.Madeleine Bain
- Gestational Weight Monitoring in Rural and Regional Populations: Women's Knowledge, Experience and Recommendations for Models of Care 16 April 2025CONCLUSION: Women would like to know more about achieving healthy weight gain and receive support to do so. Women report experiencing stigma when discussing pregnancy weight. Whilst the findings are similar to urban women's experience, rural women's ability to access care in the context of a rural setting presents a unique set of barriers. Further […]Berneice Fitzpatrick

- Evaluation of a Cost-Effective Virtual Reality Training System in Oral Maxillofacial Surgery: A Pilot Study 16 April 2025CONCLUSION: This feasibility study highlights the utility of a cost-effective VR solution for enhancing maxillofacial surgery training, providing a practical option for preparing trainees for real-life scenarios.Seongwon Choi
- Enablers and barriers to participation in physical activity programs while hospitalized after burn injury: The patient perspective 16 April 2025CONCLUSION: This is the first study to describe the patient experience of physical activity participation while hospitalized after a burn injury. Understanding the patient perspective is integral to developing appropriate multi-component interventions to promote increased physical activity early after burn injury.Anita Plaza
- Continuous versus intermittent bolus dosing of beta-lactam antibiotics in a South African multi-disciplinary intensive care unit: a randomized controlled trial 16 April 2025CONCLUSION: Among critically ill patients meeting the sepsis-3 definition, this study could not demonstrate superiority of continuous infusion of beta-lactam antibiotics compared to intermittent bolus in achieving clinical cure.Ayesha Bibi Khan
- Supporting self-management with an internet intervention for low back pain in primary care: a RCT (SupportBack 2) 15 April 2025CONCLUSIONS: The internet intervention, with or without physiotherapist telephone support, did not significantly reduce low back pain-related disability across 12 months, compared to usual primary care. The interventions were safe and likely to be cost-effective. Balancing clinical effectiveness, cost-effectiveness, accessibility and safety findings will be necessary when considering the use of these interventions in practice.Adam W A Geraghty
- Lymphoid Interstitial Pneumonia Without Known Cause: Diagnostic Work Up and Differential Considerations 15 April 2025We present a case of diffuse cystic lung disease without any known underlying systemic disorder, biopsy confirmed as lymphoid interstitial pneumonia (LIP). This case highlights the benefit of histological confirmation in cases of diagnostic uncertainty if the clinical situation permits, particularly in the setting of symptomatic deterioration.Han Xin Lau
- Growth and changing landscape of the cost-utility literature: an Australian perspective, 1992-2022 15 April 2025CONCLUSIONS: The increasing volume of CUAs underscores the importance of efficient allocation of scare resources in Australian health system. However, gaps remain, particularly in the inclusion of First Nations populations and the societal costs. Further research is needed to address these gaps and to evaluate the impact of sponsorship and discounting on CUA outcomes.Qing Xia
- Psilocybin-Assisted suppoRtive psychoTherapy IN the treatment of prolonged Grief (PARTING) trial: protocol for an open-label pilot trial for cancer-related bereavement 15 April 2025INTRODUCTION: Prolonged grief disorder (PGD) represents a substantial public health issue, especially in oncology settings where it affects up to 30% of bereaved carers. Current best-practice treatments are lengthy, and up to 50% of participants have persistent PGD. Building on encouraging recent research with psychedelic-assisted therapies, the Psilocybin-Assisted suppoRtive psychoTherapy IN the treatment of prolonged […]Vanessa L Beesley
- A scoping review of randomised controlled trials in vascular access devices in emergency departments 15 April 2025CONCLUSION: This review provides ED clinicians with current evidence on VAD technologies and techniques, enabling them to select and implement the most effective options into daily practice reduce costs and improve patient satisfaction.Hui Grace Xu
- Dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry and anti-osteoporotic medication use in Australian patients with early rheumatoid arthritis using data from the Australian Rheumatology Association Database 15 April 2025CONCLUSION: Our findings reveal delays and variability in osteoporosis screening for individuals with RA, despite higher fracture risk. Screening practices were influenced by age, glucocorticoid use and BMI, with significant gaps, particularly after diagnosis. These gaps highlight the need for standardised screening protocols to ensure timely DEXA scans and treatment, ultimately improving osteoporosis management and […]Andrea Lyon
