"I'm going home soon with the Royal Flying Doctors Service who are flying me back to Bundaberg for Christmas. I'm excited to be back home with my family. I never got married and don't have any kids, so my brother and his family and I celebrate Christmas together. My wish is that everyone has a happy and joyful Christmas filled with love."

Kellie and Mel from TPCH Paediatric Emergency Department will be working hard this Christmas day to keep little ones safe! 🚑✨

"The lead-up to Christmas and the big day itself are busy times for us, with lots of injuries coming through our doors," Kellie said.

Here are their top safety tips to help you and your kids have a fun and injury-free silly season.

🥙 Chew your food - Choking incidents are more common than you think during Christmas meals.
🛴 Wear a helmet - Whether on a scooter or bike, helmets are a must for all ages.
☀️ Slip, Slop, Slap, Seek, Slide - Don’t forget the sunscreen, especially in the QLD summer heat! Sunburn and heatstroke are common reasons for ED visits.
🌊 No running around pools - Kids love to dive, but water activities should always be safe and slow. Encourage fun in the pool, without the risks.

#ShoutoutSaturday to Kellie and Mel and all the staff working on Christmas Day.

“We came up from Melbourne to visit my sister for Christmas, but then I ended up needing emergency surgery to get my gallbladder out. I’ve been in hospital for days now, and I can’t wait to get back home! I’m so thankful to the doctors for helping me out, and I’m stoked that I’ll be back in Melbourne before Christmas. I’m really looking forward to being with my family again and finally sleeping in my own bed!”
