Mental Health Crisis Stabilisation Facility
Additional mental health support at The Prince Charles Hospital is available now construction of the $14 million Crisis Stabilisation Unit (CSU) is complete.
The Nujum Jawa CSU is in response to increased mental health crisis presentations and will provide an immediate and intensive level of care for individuals who are experiencing a mental health crisis. It is designed to provide an alternative to care in the emergency department within a home-like environment.
The unit was delivered in less than 10 months – a valuable benefit in delivering priority infrastructure to meet the rising demand for mental health services –is made up of 20 modular buildings that were manufactured offsite for a faster production cycle which also minimised impacts on hospital operations.
The interior design features integrated culturally significant art throughout the unit which includes Indigenous art pieces, nature decals on doors and walls, and landscape artworks in the entry and also in the outdoor lounge space, delivering a natural looking and welcoming space, connecting First Nations people with Country and providing a culturally safe space.
The new unit opened in September 2024 nd will run adjacent to the Emergency Department will provide 24/7 crisis support as well as targeted care.
