Santa is coming! Can your child hear the sleigh bells ringing?!!! 🔔⁉️

Clinical audiologist Heidi and the Audiology team are like Santa's elves, working hard and providing a range of diagnostic tests for infants and children.

"Hearing is really important for children to be able to develop normal speech and language skills, and finding hearing loss early helps children reach their full potential," Heidi says.

"A referral from your GP is all that we need if you are worried about your child’s hearing or speech and language development.

"As someone with a genetic hearing loss who wears hearing aids, I know first-hand the importance of early detection and management of hearing loss.”

📃 The paediatric audiology team at Caboolture Hospital encourage you to put an audiology referral on the Christmas list for your child if they need it, to make sure they can hear Santa coming! 👂

As business and family activities start to ramp up towards the end of the year, so too does the team at Virtual Emergency Care Service (VECS), ensuring that families have a safe way to get emergency care by video call if their illness or injury isn't life threatening. 🤕

Medical Director Kim and team members Jess and Kesha know that the silly season means some services are closed, but VECS are here to support when you need it most; and will be open if you need remote help every day from 8am to 10pm including public holidays.

"We’re a great resource to touch base with if you’re unsure if you need an emergency department or not and can make sure you get the specialist emergency care you need," Kim says.

"The community can be assured that there is always medical support for them no matter what day it is or where they are in Queensland."

Acting Security Supervisor Kenny is excited for Christmas to soon be upon us, and for the first Redcliffe Hospital Healthcare Ambassador role for the medical service line to roll out in the New Year. 🥳

The ambassador program is a non-traditional security role that is designed to engage with patients at the earliest opportunity, to assist patients with their concerns and help them enjoy their stay at the hospital.

“The ambassador role is often important in identifying the early signs of aggression and agitation in patients who may be affected by medication or medical conditions,” Kenny shares.

“Intervention with a security member without the security uniform on can assist and deescalate situations, producing better patient and staff outcomes.”

Kenny encourages everyone to stay safe this Christmas, and we think that’s a gift we can all appreciate.

People interested in learning more about this opportunity are encouraged to check out the vacancy via Smart Jobs or via the link in the comments 👇

14-year-old Miya visits the Children's Ward at Caboolture Hospital once every two months for an infusion. Diagnosed with Crohn's disease, she had her treatment transferred from Brisbane to Caboolture earlier this year.

A transfer to a more local hospital has made her procedure time shorter and more convenient for her family travelling with her, whilst also freeing up some time for her to write a letter to Santa this visit.

"Christmas for me is spending time with family; nanny cooks and we enjoy sweets, playing games, and I have fun memories of my cousin and I dancing for the family.

"We're going away for a holiday and to spend some family time together this year, so I've just asked Santa for clothes."
