Meet Kalem and Jordan, the brother duo leading fire safety at Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital! 🔥
Kalem recently joined his brother Jordan as a Fire Safety Advisor. Their roles are vital in helping staff understand fire safety procedures and ensure readiness in emergencies.
With backgrounds in security, Kalem and Jordan have always been drawn to fire safety, inspired by watching the Fire Safety Advisory Unit in action. 🚨
“As a Protective Services Officer, I’d work with the Fire Safety Advisory Unit and always loved their focus on people’s safety,” says Kalem.
“When I had the opportunity to follow my brother and work here, I jumped at it.”

Curious about prenatal testing? Chorionic Villus Sampling (CVS) is a quick, two-minute test for early genetic screening in pregnancy, typically done before 16 weeks. It involves taking a small tissue sample from the placenta to check for chromosomal abnormalities, genetic conditions, and more. 🧬🤰
CVS and Amniocentesis are the two main diagnostic tests offered in pregnancy. CVS is generally done earlier, while Amniocentesis, which is usually a bit more accurate, is done after 16 weeks.
Dr Alexa, an Obstetrician in Maternal Fetal Medicine at RBWH, explains. "Prenatal testing gives women and their families the power to make informed decisions about their pregnancy."
There are myths that CVS testing is unsafe for babies and can lead to miscarriage, Dr Alexa reassures that this side effect is very rare.
“Many people see online that CVS has a one in 100 chance of miscarriage, but the real risk is closer to one in 800, and it’s limited to the first three days post-test.”
