Brothers Gary, Keith and Darryl from Redcliffe Hospital have mum to thank for their nursing careers this International Nurses Day. 🥰

The three local brothers work in different areas of nursing - Keith a nursing director for medicine services line, Darryl a clinical nurse and Gary the NUM of ICU - with all agreeing that Mum's caring nature led them toward a career in nursing.

"Mum always encouraged and supported our decisions. She had interacted with the health system a lot herself and we grew interest from an early age," Keith said.

"Our fathered passed away early at 47, Gary and I were at university doing nursing at this point leaving Mum as our go to person, Darryl followed later – Mum has been our Rock."

Thanks to all the mothers and mother figures and to all the wonderful nurses today. ♥️

North Lakes palliative care patient Linda’s wish was to visit Suttons Beach at Redcliffe with her children, sister and extended family - back where it all began in the area she grew up in as a child. 🌊

On the day of her wish, there was no way Linda was leaving without fish and chips, so the team set up a picnic right on the water’s edge where Linda and her family shared stories in the sun.

Linda's beach day was made possible by the Ambulance Wish Queensland team Kristy and Aimee and nurse April from community palliative care team at North Lakes.

"It was such an incredible experience being able to see Linda have a day that meant so much to her," April said.

"It is truly an honour to be able to facilitate these experiences for our patients that have no other way to fulfil their wishes and be present and see in person how much it means to them and their families."
