- Direct to psychology stepped care model implementation in the multidisciplinary sleep service: study protocol 19 August 2025BACKGROUND: Sleep disorders are common and costly to society. Guidelines from the American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM) and the Australasian Sleep Association (ASA) recommend Cognitive Behaviour Therapy for Insomnia (CBTi) as the best treatment modality for insomnia disorder in the long term, however, access issues due to medical first referral pathways and psychology workforce […]Sara Winter
- Liberal or restrictive transfusion for veno-arterial extracorporeal membrane oxygenation patients: a target trial emulation using the OBLEX study data 19 August 2025CONCLUSION: This target trial emulation study suggests that a liberal transfusion threshold may provide a modest survival benefit during the early course of VA-ECMO, but no benefit afterwards. Prospective studies are needed to confirm these findings, assess clinical adoption, and investigate underlying mechanism.Le Thi Phuong Thao
- Measurement and Sequelae of Neonatal Skin Injuries: A Prospective Diagnostic/Feasibility Study 19 August 2025Neonatal skin injuries are common, but location and metric size contribute to inconsistent severity reporting. To date, non-invasive technologies remain unexplored for neonatal injuries. The aim of this study was to assess the feasibility and accuracy of visual assessment against three technologies for injuries to the skin from pressure, stripping and tearing. The prospective diagnostic/feasibility […]Deanne August
- <em>"I like to accommodate as much as possible":</em> A survey of food service professionals' awareness of dysphagia and experiences in dietary modifications 19 August 2025CONCLUSION: While high levels of awareness and confidence were reported, barriers continue to limit the translation of these positive attitudes into practice. Improved education and training materials delivered in multiple modalities and targeted at all levels of food service professionals are indicated.Rebecca L Packer
- Sodium bicarbonate in critical illness: targeted or too broad? Author's reply 19 August 2025No abstractRuth Miriam Blank
- Correction: Shortening antibiotic therapy duration for hospital-acquired bloodstream infections in critically ill patients: a causal inference model from the international EUROBACT-2 database 19 August 2025No abstractLena Gajdos
- Impact of a Decision Aid on Perceptions of Shared Decision-Making in the Primary Care Management of Patients With Subacromial Pain Syndrome: A Two-Phased Multi-Methods Study 18 August 2025CONCLUSION: A decision aid significantly improved observer- and patient-rated SDM in primary care consultations for patients with SAPS. Observer-rated SDM scores more than doubled with the decision aid, and patients reported higher levels of SDM.Samantha C Bengtsen
- Antenatal Urinary Tract Dilatation Assessment Using "UTD Classification System" and Its Association With Post-Natal Outcomes in a Tertiary Care Center: A Prospective Observational Study 18 August 2025CONCLUSION: Ours is one of the largest prospective studies on UTD classification. Key points noted in this study are that most of the resolving UTDs were from UTD A1, and obstructive uropathies were from the UTD A2-3 group. Higher maximum APRPD and ureteric abnormalities were independent predictors for surgery in the UTD A2-3 group.Vinitra Dayalan
- Non-mechanical haemodynamic support in acute pulmonary thromboembolism: a scoping review 18 August 2025CONCLUSION: The evidence to guide clinical practice in the non-mechanical haemodynamic support of PE is severely limited. However, there are numerous candidate agents that could be further investigated. The high-risk group are an understudied population.W Body
- A multimodality imaging approach to the diagnosis of infective endocarditis: incremental value of combining modalities 18 August 2025Infective endocarditis is a complex disease leading to significant morbidity and mortality. The in-hospital mortality has remained at 15-30% despite significant advances in cardiac imaging over the past two decades. Prevention, timely diagnosis, and prompt treatment can minimise adverse sequelae. The key to prevention lies in patient and clinician education. Traditionally the diagnosis has relied […]Siobhan Boyle
- Implementing routine sexual and reproductive health screening into an Australian child and youth mental health service: study protocol for a cluster randomised controlled trial 18 August 2025BACKGROUND: Adolescents living with mental illness are more likely than their peers to engage in risky sexual behaviours such as unsafe sexual practices or drug misuse, which can result in sexually transmitted infections (STIs), unplanned pregnancies and sexual coercion or violence. One barrier to these adolescents receiving sexual and reproductive health (SRH) care is a […]Julie A Blake
- Coordinated Development of Immune Cell Populations in Vascularized Skin Organoids from Human Induced Pluripotent Stem Cells 16 August 2025Human skin is a highly vascularized organ, where blood vessels perform essential roles in maintaining skin homeostasis and participate in thermal regulation. Currently, there is an unmet challenge to generate vascularized, functional skin models. In this study, human fetal placental endothelial colony forming cells (ECFC) are incorporated into human induced pluripotent stem cell (hiPSC)-derived skin […]Mitchell Mostina
- Subdural Haematoma at the Royal Darwin Hospital, Australia: A 6-Year Review of Epidemiology, Management and Outcomes 15 August 2025CONCLUSION: SDH represents a significant burden on regional neurosurgical services in Northern Australia. The findings underscore the challenges of delivering timely care across vast distances and the need for improved service models to support neurotrauma care in rural and remote settings.Charlie Cho
- Multidisciplinary Clinical Quality Indicators for Head and Neck Cancer: A Modified Delphi Study in Australia 15 August 2025CONCLUSION: We developed a priority set of 24 clinically relevant QIs for HNC, which will be tested in a clinical quality registry to benchmark optimal management of HNC and outcomes.Rebecca L Venchiarutti
- Extracorporeal membrane oxygenation cannula dressing and securement practices: A point prevalence study 15 August 2025CONCLUSIONS: Variation exists in ECMO cannula dressing and securement practices across Australia and New Zealand intensive care units, and adherence to local guidelines is low. Further evidence on optimal cannula dressing and securement techniques is urgently required to inform the development of clinical practice guidelines and improve patient care and outcomes.Amanda Corley
