- Prevention and Early Delirium Identification Carer Toolkit (PREDICT): A Study Protocol for a Stepped-Wedge, Cluster Randomised Controlled Trial 29 October 2025BACKGROUND: Delirium, a common, serious and often preventable complication in older hospitalised adults, contributes to significant health and social care costs. Carers are uniquely positioned to identify early signs and support delirium prevention. The Prevention & Early Delirium Identification Carer Toolkit (PREDICT), a novel model of care designed to educate carers about delirium management and […]Christina Aggar
- Rationale and Methodological Approach Underlying the Development of the Sequential Organ Failure Assessment (SOFA)-2 Score: A Consensus Statement 29 October 2025CONCLUSIONS AND RELEVANCE: Through a methodologically robust development process, the SOFA-2 score offers updated definitions to describe organ dysfunction in adult patients requiring critical care and readily quantifiable criteria to grade the degree of dysfunction in individual organ systems. This score considers contemporaneous changes in patient management and outcomes.Rui Moreno
- Development and Validation of the Sequential Organ Failure Assessment (SOFA)-2 Score 29 October 2025CONCLUSIONS AND RELEVANCE: The SOFA-2 score, updated to include contemporary organ support treatments and new score thresholds, describes organ dysfunction in a large, geographically and socioeconomically diverse population of critically ill adults.Otavio T Ranzani
- Response to "Real-World Feasibility and Challenges in Using LAS for Stress Echocardiography" 29 October 2025No abstractBenjamin T Fitzgerald
- Trajectories of Glasgow Outcome Scale-Extended after traumatic brain injury: an analysis of the TRACK-TBI cohort 29 October 2025CONCLUSIONS: Our findings support a shift towards trajectory-based stratification in clinical care and research. Incorporating these patterns into prognostic modelling may improve outcome prediction, personalise rehabilitation and refine eligibility criteria for interventional trials.Peter Paramaseeven Curpen
- RECIP 1.0 more predictive of overall survival than PSMA PET progression criteria in biochemically recurrent prostate cancer 28 October 2025CONCLUSION: In BCR PCa, RECIP 1.0 best predicts OS, PPP criteria better predict PSA progression, and PROMISE nomograms provide a single-timepoint approach to OS risk stratification.Kaylee Molin
- Infection risk of peripheral intravenous catheters: meta-synthesis of 18 prospective studies with 14,606 catheters 28 October 2025CONCLUSIONS: Infection incidence is very low but remains a serious risk, mainly for complex patients. Gram-negative organisms may now be predominant in Australia. Infection surveillance should be risk-adjusted and prevention efforts to improve both insertion and post-insertion management targeted at high-risk groups. While overall intravenous therapy (exposure) should be minimised, daily risk per PIVC appears […]Claire M Rickard
- Sepsis in the absence of fever: Determining the criteria for and feasibility of future therapeutic temperature management trials 28 October 2025CONCLUSION: Fever deficits were large, particularly when the initial body temperature was not febrile. Only 1 in 15 ICU patients with sepsis had an initial body temperature ≥38.3°C. Approximately 2000 adults a year with sepsis and an initial body temperatureKyle C White
- The influence of consent models on recruitment rates in randomised trials in critical care: A systematic review 28 October 2025CONCLUSION: Alternate consent models for critical care RCTs were associated with higher recruitment rates compared to a priori consent. A study-within-a-trial analysis may be required for definitive evaluation.Mahesh Ramanan
- Pediatric supraglottic airway: why go blind when the airway can be seen? 28 October 2025No abstractManuel Á Gómez-Ríos
- Observational research in critical care: Harnessing the lens of truth 28 October 2025No abstractKarin Plummer
- Lets talk about ataxia-telangiectasia: Meeting report of the AT clinical research conference June 2025 28 October 2025Almost fifty years after the identification of ataxia telangiectasia (A-T) as a radiosensitive disorder and thirty years following the identification of ataxia telangiectasia mutated (ATM) as the defective gene, clinicians and scientists gathered at Loughborough University, UK from June 25th -27th 2025 for an Ataxia Telangiectasia Clinical Research Conference. The mix of expertise of clinicians […]David Coman
- Effect of Periodontal Therapy on Salivary Extracellular Vesicle Cargos: An Exploratory Study 27 October 2025CONCLUSIONS: This exploratory study demonstrated that NSPT led to clinical improvements accompanied by changes in the composition and cytokine cargo of salivary host EVs. Alterations in salivary host EV sub-populations and cytokine profiles may have potential utility as biomarkers for monitoring treatment outcomes in periodontitis.Jenny Wang
- A Phase 1 Research Trial to Evaluate the Safety and Effectiveness of Intranasal Botulinum Toxin Type A Spray for Patients With Rhinitis 26 October 2025CONCLUSION: In this Phase 1 trial, topical application of botulinum toxin via spray was shown to be safe, without any significant adverse events. It reduced the TNSS and VAS across the cohort. However, the treatment efficacy should be taken in context as there was no blinding, alternative dosing, or comparison against placebo or recognized active […]James Bates
- Understanding early dietary adoption after bariatric surgery: A qualitative study using the theory of planned behaviour 26 October 2025CONCLUSION: Early dietary changes after bariatric surgery seem to be influenced by psychological, social, and physical factors beyond education. Future interventions should aim to incorporate strategies to reduce cognitive load, address competing social pressures, and account for the temporal aspects of health-protective behaviours. Theory-based interventions that integrate implementation intention techniques, social support optimisation, and temporal […]Charlene Wright
