Engage and align
Why do we need to engage and align?
At the end of the engage and align stage, your co-design team will have:
- collectively identified an issue or opportunity for co-design
- a plan for how you will progress through the co-design process
- identified key individuals and groups in the broader community of stakeholders and a plan for future engagement
Who is involved?
The co-design team. This stage is all about the co-design team working together to identify the issue or opportunity for co-design, and planning for the project.
What co-design methods, tools and templates could we use?
We have collated a list of tools which might guide this engagement, but feel free to adapt these or to not use any of these at all. The aim is to find out how each other think and feel and experience an issue, so it may feel more natural to just get together and talk.
- Gather the experience: planning tool, NSW Health
- Stakeholder mapping tool, Auckland Co-design Lab
- Engagement checklist, Government of South Australia
- Stakeholder analysis, Government of South Australia
- Engagement planning, Government of South Australia
- IAP2 Engagement Methods Tool (contact Metro North Engage for information about how to access this under the annual subscription)
Tip: You should think broadly about community engagement, thinking about all possible people/groups who may be involved in or impacted by the issue and potential solutions. This may include past, present and future health service users (i.e. people with lived experience), front-line clinicians, managers, administration and operational staff, researchers, community groups, primary health care providers etc.
