RBWH Doctor of the year awards

The annual RBWH Doctors of the Year Awards were held at the hospital on 25 November 2022. The Doctor of the Year Awards recognises and celebrates doctors of all levels at RBWH who demonstrate excellence and dedication in the areas of leadership, professionalism, peer support, education, new initiatives and research.

There are five awards announced on the night including Intern of the Year, Resident of the Year, PHO of the Year, Registrar or the Year, and Consultant of the Year. This year there were 125 nominations.

The event was catered for and organised by the MSA (Medical Staff Association) in collaboration with CMORE-Medical Education Unit.  The awards were sponsored by the Medical Indemnity Protection Society (MIPS) and presented by Dr Julieanne Graham (A/Chief Medical Officer & Director of Medical Services) and Dr Cameron Bennett (Chairman of the MSA)].

The winners of the awards for 2022 were:

2022 RBWH Intern of the Year:

Dr Jeremy Briggs

“One of the most hard-working interns I have come across this year. Never complains about workload and always willing to help out.”

2022 RBWH Resident of the Year:

Dr Hasan Maki

“Always looking out for colleagues. Checking in on juniors to ensure they’re well and safe.”

2022 RBWH PHO of the Year: 

Dr Rui Soares

2022 RBWH Registrar of the Year:

Dr James Nolan

“Was an excellent registrar. He guided junior doctors and lead by example. He was approachable and an excellent educator. He was a great clinician and had a wonderful approach with patients. He was an excellent mentor and made the transition between medical students to doctor much smoother.”

2022 RBWH Consultant of the Year:

Dr Dharmenaan Palamuthusingam

“Always willing to help in a busy renal department and very supportive of registrars and residents. Always keen to teach and ensure department is looked after.”

“Has worked tirelessly over the past two years to improve multiple facets of patient care and education in the nephrology department. He consistently provides support and leadership to all in the department. He helped to guide and streamline Covid responses while also supporting education sessions and development of both advanced and basic trainees. In conjunction with his clinical and research work within the department he is also completing his PhD. He is an outstanding colleague who deserves recognition and effort since arriving at the RBWH.”
