Severe storms predicted, possible flash flooding

Friday 13th February 2026

What is happening?

Metro North Health is at Alert for severe weather over the next few days.

The Bureau of Meteorology predicts areas of heavy to locally intense rain across parts of southeast Queensland during Friday and into the weekend. While rainfall may ease tonight across the region, there may be local areas of heavy rainfall. Localised flash flooding will become an increased risk across the area possibly during Friday, persisting into the weekend.

Flood Watch has been updated for catchments across parts of southeast Queensland, with minor to moderate flooding likely this afternoon and over the weekend. Rapid river rises are possible in areas with the heaviest rainfall.

Metro North facilities provide essential services to the community and all of us, clinical, operational, support and administrative staff play a vital role in ensuring our patients receive all the care they need whatever the weather event.

What do I need to do?

Report any flooding or leaks in Metro North facilities to your local BEMS team.

In the past heavy rain and flooding has affected the ability of some staff to get to or from work. If you have concerns about getting to or from work over the next few days, please discuss this with your supervisor now.

Staff are asked to be mindful of where you park when coming to and leaving work as some areas on or near our campuses are prone to flooding.

Please take care when walking to and from your vehicle and remain undercover until it is safe to move around. Be mindful that the wet weather may also cause difficult driving conditions.

Please remain safe, take extreme care on the roads and under no circumstance cross flooded waterways.

Queensland Fire Department advises that people should:

  • Never drive, walk or ride through flood waters. If it’s flooded, forget it.
  • Keep clear of creeks and storm drains.
  • For storm and flood assistance contact the SES on 132 500. In a life threatening situation call 000.
