The RBWH Building Engineering and Maintenance Service (BEMS) team recently completed a successful refurbishment of the 6A oncology space.
The refurbishments started on 12 September 2022 and included demolition of old space, replacement of services, installation of new bathrooms, joinery, vinyl and painting of walls in a modern colour scheme.
The BEMS crew worked tirelessly to have the site ready by 3 December 2022 to ensure the 6A oncology clinical team were able to start transferring patients into their new ward by the go live date.
Cancer Care NUM Tracy Glynn said the BEMS team were a pleasure to work with, despite the challenges of undertaking such a large project.
“The BEMS team were responsive, accommodating and maintained excellent communication throughout the renovation,” Tracy said.
“We were invited to weekly site visits so they could show us their progress and chat about next steps.
“Christmas came early for the nurses in 6A, returning to, in my biased opinion, the best ward in the hospital. We look forward to the next refurbishment.”
