Herston Imaging Research Facility (HIRF) is a highly specialised imaging centre Director-General Shaun Drummond visited the Herston Imaging Research Facility (HIRF) This week the Director-General Shaun Drummond and I visited the Herston Imaging Research Facility (HIRF) to see some of the research and new equipment in action.

HIRF is a highly specialised imaging centre and participates in a huge amount of incredible research. It was exciting to see images of the monthly scans of one of the patients who has received 3D breast scaffold surgery with Herston Biofabrication Institute and the Comprehensive Breast Cancer Institute. Over time the scans will show how the scaffold is being replaced with live tissue.

The Director-General and Queensland Health Chief Operating Officer Dr David Rosengren will also be visiting Caboolture and Redcliffe Hospitals next week.

RBWH Emergency and Trauma Centre hosted a delegation of Mongolian and World Health Organization doctorsThe RBWH Emergency and Trauma Centre this week hosted a delegation of Mongolian and World Health Organization doctors. The group toured the ETC and talked to staff to see how a busy metropolitan emergency department functions.

Over the weekend a group of dedicated staff made one patient extremely happy when they assisted her to attend the Ed Sheeran concert. Redcliffe ICU patient Melissa is permanently ventilated and a big Ed Sheeran fan. With support from the clinical team, Melissa attended the concert on Friday night accompanied by ICU nurse Monique Bonnell. The outing was a combined effort of Melissa’s carers and the ICU team including Monique, Dr Seema Saddi, NUM Gary Von Doren and Dr Hamish Pollock, with the assistance of Metro North Legal and Workplace Health and Safety. Our Metro North Communications team also arranged for Ed to record a personal video message for Melissa. A great example of our values in action!

Well done to STARS staff who have collaborated to establish fortnightly Saturday ophthalmology, gynaecology and gastroenterology sessions. Delivering these additional sessions demonstrates a positive, patient centred focus and a collective willingness to go above and beyond for our community. Thank you all for your leadership.

I’m looking forward to the Metro North Health Equity showcase next Wednesday at Deception Bay Community Centre. The event will highlight the great work happening across our directorates and facilities to improve health outcomes and create a more equitable healthcare service for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

Regards,

Jackie.
