Following a highly successful launch during COVID-19, Metro North’s Queensland Adult Specialist Immunisation Service (QASIS) has expanded their scope of practice to provide vaccination advice on all vaccine-preventable diseases, with a particular focus on those in the National Immunisation Program.
The QASIS team consists of a range of immunisation specialists including senior medical officers, nursing, and allied health staff who can provide patients and staff with vaccination advice.
The service is available to people across Queensland aged 16 and over who have previously had an adverse event following immunisation or are at risk of a significant adverse event, have an underlying complex medical condition and are unable to be vaccinated in a primary healthcare setting, and require post immunisation supervision in a hospital setting.
QASIS Director and Director of Infectious Diseases Dr Andrew Redmond said QASIS helps to improve the quality of care for patients by facilitating immunisation against vaccine preventable diseases for those previously unable to access suitable vaccination services.
“We want to support clinicians by providing hands on clinician vaccination training through skills development workshops, education to health professionals on vaccine preventable diseases and through helping to improve the recognition and treatment of possible adverse events following immunisation,” Dr Redmond said.
“If in doubt about vaccinating a patient, please refer to QASIS! Our highly skilled multidisciplinary team will work in collaboration with you to find the best possible patient outcomes, whether that be vaccination or other treatment, or both.
“QASIS aims to be the leading vaccination service for adults in Queensland, working with like-minded professionals across the state and nationally. We aim to provide safe access to vaccines as they become available in Australia, both funded and privately. We are also becoming a key home of clinical vaccine research, involved in multiple clinical trials of vaccines.”
