Dear colleagues,

Spaces are filling fast for the Metro North soccer tournament. We’ve already filled 50% of the slots, so if you’re planning to compete get your team together and register! Cheering is just as important as playing, so if you’re not feeling sporty it’s still worth getting along to Albion Indoor Sports Centre on 19 June to support your local team. There’s a prize for best costume.

Our soccer and netball tournaments are usually our most popular staff events and a lot of fun for players and spectators alike. For the netball fans, fear not – we’re planning a November tournament. Details will be released closer to the event.

The Metro North trivia night will be held on Friday 16 July. This is a virtual trivia competition held at five locations around Metro North. Registrations will open next week. The theme this year will be ‘around the world’ so start planning your costumes.

On Thursday the Chair of the Board and I participated in a meeting between the Minister, HHSs and the department. We are working on our collective response and strategies for the forward outlook on funding and activity. We expect an outcome of the State budget process in the coming weeks and will then know our final offer for the 21/22 Service Level Agreement.

I’ve challenged the teams in the Office of the CE to reach at least 75% for the Have your Say survey by next Friday. So far, the Communication team is leading with 79%, so Ned will have to fire up the oven to make good on my promise of baked treats! I have found that the promise of cupcakes is definitely a way to get participation. David Rosengren has about 7500 staff at RBWH and that would require him to start baking immediately if he is going to match my offer. I am happy to send him some good recipes!

This week I visited The Prince Charles Hospital and had the opportunity to talk with staff. I will be at North Lakes on Monday to meet with staff. Come along to the staff area on level 1 between 11am and 12pm if you’d like to have a chat with me.

Ned is trying to convince me that we should buy an e-bike each, which creates an opportunity for us to spend more time together. As many people would know my journey over the last 14 months has meant that I have lost 63kg. Surely it is defeating the purpose of going for a bike ride if we are then going to cheat and use a battery to do the hard work. We already have 3 bicycles, and this would create a 1.7 bicycles to person ratio for the house. She quickly asked what our computer/tablet ratio is – sadly I had to confess we have a 2.33 ratio. However, I did offer to go for a virtual ride or get a new coffee machine. Brunch is one of my favourite meals to go out for and we often see groups of cyclists stopping for coffee. We could skip the middleperson and just go straight to the coffee. Watch this space for the battle of the e-bikes.

Regards,

Shaun
