This week, 27 May 2023 to 3 June 2023, marks National Reconciliation Week as we show respect and remembrance to the successful 1967 referendum, and the High Court Mabo decision. Both dates commemorate a significant turning point in Australian history and an achievement for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
The theme for National Reconciliation Week 2023, Be a Voice for Generations, encourages all Australians to be a voice for reconciliation in tangible ways in our everyday lives – where we live, work and socialise.
Truth-telling
In light of colonial conflict and dispossession, we recognise the strength and resilience of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and cultures. We recognise the emphasis and importance of truth-telling to the ongoing process of healing and reconciliation in Australia as the true history of colonisation must be told.
Truth-telling creates an opportunity for both Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander and non-Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to build, strengthen and maintain relationships, which in turn, leads to greater equality and equity.
We encourage you to read the resource material on the Reconciliation Australia website and consider your role as Metro North progresses with our localised Health Equity Strategy 2022 – 2025, and more importantly, in challenges of today and opportunities for the future.
Please take care of yourselves and others,
Kind Regards,
