It was good to meet with staff at Brighton Health Campus on Monday for a Listening Post. I always enjoy sitting under the sails chatting with everyone. I also met with patient and consumer liaison staff from across the directorates to hear about what’s happening in their areas and thank them for their work.
70 years of haemodialysis
The Kidney Health Service is celebrating 70 years since Australia’s first successful haemodialysis treatment at what was then the Brisbane Hospital (now RBWH). The first patient, a 36-year-old woman, was treated on 10 February 1954. In the years since, the Kidney Health Service has treated thousands of people. Congratulations on this milestone!
Artificial heart research
Congratulations to Professor John Fraser who is part of a research team awarded a $50M grant from the Medical Research Future Fund for the next stage of the Bivacor artificial heart, centred at the Alfred Hospital in Victoria.
The artificial heart project started many years ago at The Prince Charles Hospital and has played an important role in the careers of many biomedical engineers and medical researchers.
