The success of this year’s symposium is a credit to our Director of Research and Medical Education Dr Joel Dulhunty and the research team.
The reputation of research at Redcliffe Hospital has never been stronger, thanks to another successful Redcliffe Hospital Research Symposium.
Now in its fifth year, the symposium included 17 research presentations from a diverse range of clinical backgrounds,
and professional groups.
Executive Director Louise Oriti said the symposium had once again successfully showcased the depth of research conducted by our clinicians.
“The success of this year’s symposium is a credit to our Director of Research and Medical Education Dr Joel Dulhunty and the research team. That success is shared by all of those who presented and prepared posters for the Symposium,” Louise said.
Director of Research and Medical Education Dr Joel Dulhunty said one of the symposium’s highlights had been the presentation of the hospital’s Research Excellence Awards
“This year we presented our Research Excellence Award to Dr Pat Carroll, Staff Specialist in General Medicine, recognising his extraordinary contribution to research at Redcliffe Hospital over the last 30 years,” Dr Dulhunty said.
“Dr Carroll has been the principal site investigator on 70 practice-changing clinical trials and associated studies.
“Under Dr Carroll’s leadership, Redcliffe Hospital has participated in clinical trials that have offered patients new and more effective therapies for the treatment and prevention of cardiovascular disease and hyperlipidaemia, venous thromboembolism, asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and various types of infections.
“Dr Carroll was also instrumental in the establishing the Research Hub, a coordination centre for clinical trials at Redcliffe Hospital. He also played a key role in developing the Redcliffe Caboolture Human Research Ethics Committee, which he chaired for many years.”
Dr Dulhunty said, after the success of the fifth symposium this year, planning would start soon on the symposium for 2022.
