Facilitators from intensive care, emergency department and various medical teams have joined forces to boost Medical Emergency Team (MET) training to improve staff skills in responding to ‘real’ emergencies. While activity has been reduced as part of TPCH’s pandemic preparedness, MET training has increased, averaging two training sessions a week.
For these training events members of the nominated MET team for the day need to respond to a variety of pre-determined emergency scenarios.
Members of the MET team receive a pager call (‘MET Call Training ward X bed X’) and the training event starts.
During the last few weeks, simulation events have been happening in different wards across the hospital. This has provided a unique learning opportunity for medical and nursing staff from these wards to participate as first responders and as observers.
Debriefing is provided to all participants and observers following the training session with feedback showing that the learning opportunities have been excellent.
If you are interested in hosting the next Simulation MET Team Training in your ward/area, please contact TPCH Simulation Coordinator Kim Gourlay via email: TPCH-Simulation@health.qld.gov.au
