In loving memory of Dr Michael Perera, our colleagues at The University of Queensland have established a special award in his name.
Dr Perera passed away suddenly on the 2 February 2020 and is fondly remembered and missed by all who knew him.
The Michael Perera Teaching Award is a student nominated teaching award within the UQ Medical Program. It is awarded to a Clinician who exceeds expectations in their role as a Clinical Teacher and Mentor. The winners of each clinical unit award are eligible to win the John Pearn Medallion, which is presented to the overall winner for teaching excellence. The 2020 Winners for the Royal Brisbane Clinic Unit were:
Phase 1 (Year 1 and 2): Dr Kay Strom
Phase 2 (Year 3 and 4): Dr Simone Costa
With Dr Strom also receiving the John Pearn Medallion for 2020. More details on the award process can be found here.
RBWH will be formally honouring Dr Perera later this year.
