Metro North residents are being vaccinated in record numbers thanks to the opening of several new community vaccination clinics.
Community and Oral Health Acting Executive Director Glynis Schultz said the community response to the opening of the sites at Doomben Racecourse, Brighton Health Campus, Kippa Ring and the Surgical, Treatment and Rehabilitation Service (STARS) had been significant.
“The number of community members booking online and coming forward to get vaccinated at these four Metro North Health sites is in excess of 1,600 vaccinations each day,” Mrs Schultz said.
“Close to 2,000 community members passed through the doors of our community vaccination clinics on one day alone in late June.
“At the STARS vaccination clinic we have reached a major milestone with 50,000 vaccinations now administered by late June.”
As part of Metro North Health’s response to COVID-19, the Community and Oral Health Directorate has safely set up four clinics across Metro North in a very short timeframe.
“In a two to three week period we opened our Super Saturday Vaccination Clinic at Brighton and the Community Vaccination Clinics at Doomben Racecourse and Kippa Ring,” Mrs Schultz said.
“This activity has significantly increased the demand on our directorate, and I remain so grateful to our staff for all of their efforts making this possible.”
At the same time, Community and Oral Health staff are delivering testing, hotel quarantine, bedded services, oral health care and broader rehabilitation and complex chronic disease care across the community and in homes.
Mrs Schultz said thank you to everyone who had worked tirelessly behind the scenes to plan and set up these vaccination clinics, and all the clinical staff and support staff who will run them.
“I want acknowledge Michelle Kane, Zuby Daryu, Kevin Rogers, Mary Wheeldon, Adriane McShane and our Administration Team and all of our clinicians for establishing these clinics so seamlessly and supporting the assessment clinic and hotel quarantine.”
During June we have also seen a massive increase in the number of tests being delivered at the Pine Rivers Community Assessment Clinic.
Thank you to all the staff across Metro North and our private testing partners who have stepped in to help during this challenging time.
