On Friday 26 November, three RBWH youth cancer patients participated in a very special music workshop curated for them by the Stairwell Project Team in the Sony You Can Centre.
Current and former patients Aliona, Joe and Lauren were moved by the private performance from the Stairwell Project team, as well as the musician’s personal stories.
From the cool jazz sounds of the “Make Some Noise Collective” to the mesmerizing handpan, the harp and flute duo and Jordan Brodie’s guitar solo music, the YouCan Centre was well and truly reimagined throughout the three hour workshop.
Working with RBWH Cancer Care Director Dr Glen Kennedy and Cancer Care Adolescent Social Workers Amanda Mellow and Janine Deevey, Stairwell Founder and Curator Peter Breen also launched the idea of song writing workshops for young patients in 2022. The idea was received enthusiastically with new events planned for 2022 with musician and songwriter – and former leukemia patient at RBWH – Danny Widdicombe, and host of the Channel 10 TABOO series, comedian Harley Breen.
