There has been a lot of movement forward for the directorate over the past week.
BPA Survey Actions
The BPA survey gave us a lot of meaningful actions and things to think about, especially in the area on how we can improve the environment and amenities staff have access to.
I am very happy to announce that we have now received funding to improve some of the staff breakout, tea rooms and rest areas at:
- Sandgate Dental Clinic
- North Lakes Health Precinct
- Zillmere Residential Transition Care
- Aspley Community Health Centre
- Brighton Health Campus.
The planned improvements are expected to be finished mid-year.
Our Hotel Quarantine and Virtual Ward staff
A big thank you to our Hotel Management staff who have quietly and effectively contributed so much to the COVID-19 response. As the Hotel Quarantine chapter closes I want to thank every staff member across Metro North who has supported this effort over the past few years.
At the same time, our Virtual Ward staff are still doing great things, with the safe increase in the acuity levels of patients they are caring for. The virtual ward staff, coupled with our team on the ground at Norfolk Island, are making new friends and getting plenty of accolades from locals.
“A big thank you to you and all the medical staff in the virtual ward and Metro North Health for the care and assistance we have received in what we could call unique circumstances!
“The care and support we have received since being in isolation has been above and beyond and we thank you all.”
Our work toward Health Equity
It is very exciting to hear that work has begun locally around the Health Equity Strategy. While many staff have joined in specific KPA working groups, there are also mandatory session being scheduled for middle management, team leaders including NGR7 NUMS, nurse educators, etc.
As part of these session executive sponsors will discuss our journey towards health equity and the importance of everyone contributing within their roles.

Supporting winter bed demand
Planning is underway for how we will support the winter bed demand this year with a detailed focus on patient flow to and from our services, as well as hospital avoidance strategies and additional support through our Post Acute Care Service.
Thank you to everyone involved, this work will put us in good stead to continue to meet the needs of not only of our hospitals but also our community, patients and residents.
Become a Peer Responder
There still time to nominate yourself or a colleague as a COH Peer Responder. The Expression of Interest (EOI) process closes on the 23 March 2022.
